Just because it has 90 amperes worth of fuses, it doesn't mean it's limited to 90 amperes ... Many fuses can take double their rating for several minutes ...
Ok, so we assume that amp can draw 180 amps for a grand total of up to 6 minutes at a time with 4 minute rests for the fuses to cool down. That's still not enough current draw to make 3000 watts unless you're pushing 16.6 volts and 100% efficiency (word: impossible).

But, if you knew you had an amp that was going to draw an average of 180 amps at full tilt, why fuse it for only 90 amps?

Because, with the dynamics of music and the fact that most people don't run their amps at 100% capacity on a continual basis.....it is very unlikely that you'll actually pull full current for any length of time (i.e. longer than tenths of a second). That is, unless you "roll through town" bumping sine-waves //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thats a bit of an exageration, even a slowblow should blow at any sustained current above its rating, otherwise whats the point of even having that rating? They CAN take double power for short amounts of time, I've never tested this length of time, but I HIGHLY doubt it would be more than a few seconds, but, if you would lke, prove me wrong.

Get a few of the powerbass subs even the lower line like the B series. They are cheap and VERY good.
Yes yes please do buy some heheeh I've still got a ton of them left for sale. I've got 12's and 15's and they are $60.00 ea (shameless plug //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif )

I just bought on Ebay the BOSS RIP220DVC 1200 watt 12 inch sub (dual voice coil obviously). It's 300 watts RMS per channel. I put it into a bandpass box that's 16x16x22? I believe. I hooked it up to a 2 channel with 300 watts RMS per channel and it sounds great. You be surprised. This sub sounds better than my buddy's JL 12 which is in a similar sized car. He spent a thousand bucks for his system, and I spent 200 and my sub pounds harder. For 56 bucks shipped you cant go wrong. The magnet is a decent size and weighs like 8 pounds. I'd recommend it to anyone

Sounds more like your friend knows what he's doing and hasn't maxed the gains out on everything. You should try properly setting them, too.
