Blew my HDC3 in under 30 min

What did I miss?
The coil started to scrape....could be anything from a misaligned motor to something that got in the gap. Coils don't just unravel and still work. The amount of heat needed to unravel a coil would have at least burnt up the coil first.

If you beat up the bottom of the former it can happen.

You're not gonna bottom out these subs straight out the box. They have a crazy stiff surround. I couldn't bottom out my 18 at full tilt (obviously I could if I went below tuning but I didn't)

This^

I'm not to bad with subs. I've never blown one... EVER!

I call BS on HDC not being so Heavy Duty China

That looks manly, lulz. And bgowdy I think you'd be fine, after displacements you should be close to 6 - 6.5
yea i was figuring its probly around 6.5 or so. again tho my enclosure tuned to 33hz, but as i was saying my blazer res freq is between 51-53hz, i guess im going to try to get my box tune closer to the resin freq. that would probly gain me some and then get rid of the crappy aq softparts with a recone(still not sure what kind yet) and switch to a d1 coils and run @ .5 ohm to get the 3400rms. im thinking after, fixing box tuning + a good recone to d1 + a nice power increase = able to do a 150db on music.........hopefully atleast close lulz.

You know the funny thing is... We pulled the sub right after the noise and felt the coil... New one was hot as hell... Old one was cool as @Kangaroux; mom's cucumber.

That is no bueno //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

On the bright side, the C-Pillar wall looks nice!

Tons of meh in this thread.

Coil scraping can be several issues. Here is where AQ may become less then helpful though. Kevin will do what he can to keep you happy, but if it is indeed the coil being loose in the gap they will fault the user for clipping or excessive power. If there is actually something in the gap then they will fix it no issues most of the time.

As for power handling, I have said will always say they are rated for 1k for a very good reason. Can they take more? Sure some times they do...are they meant to? Nope. lol

As for Kevin and his tech help...well, in the end he is not a tech guy what so ever, he is only a customer support specialist. So if anyone contacts AQ and they respond with advice, double and triple check what they suggest as odds are it will not be 100% correct.
