Blew my HDC3 in under 30 min

Let me specify... less then 30min total play time

Finished my wall this weekend and it wasn't sounding right because of all the dam flex. Could only go 3/4 all the way around except the front which was an extra 1/2.

Anyway, My buddy came over and helped me finish the extra bracing and I was very surprised by the results.

We made sure the amp was only putting out about 2400watts and I kept my volume 3 levels under clipping. Everything was sounding great:)//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif:)

Couple of tracks later and first the smell... We turned it off, checked the coil... Seemed OK until we fired it up again. Nice little scratchy sound on low levels.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif:(//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

The old one still works great.. lol.

Before I started this build I asked the rep if using an old model HDC3 and a new would be fine. I guess not.

From the rep:

"Simeon they will work perfectly together as a pair. The coil and motor were just re-engineered a little. The only reason to buy another is if you want them to match physically, mechanically though they perform the same."

My only hope at this point is that they will give me credit if I buy two HDC4's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

Sheeit, I was worried for a second the one I was using blew :/
Hopefully AQ does you well...that's ghey that it blew though. Cooked the coil I take it?
seems like a small piece unwound cause I can go outside... turn it up and its just as loud as it was before the blow out. I won't be doing that much cause I don't wanna damage your old one. lol

Yeah I wouldn't play with it until you get that new one fixed lol. Before it all crapped itself how did it sound? Get another layer of wood all around if you can.
felt like 150

The steering wheel was a floppin'.... and it never does that in the newer exploders unless your getting loud.

i wish aq did trade ins & would work something out for me to get 2 15" hdc3's.....just to try them lol...
I'm hoping that because of the odd circumstances they will work with me.

I send them back one defective HDC3 and they credit me on my purchase of two HDC4's. Everyone's happy

yea... id also like to try out 4 of the sdc 2.5 15s as well. i know the sdc2.5 12s sounded good, my wife use to run one and i got down for what it was and was on about 1000rms.

so, you put 2400 watts rms on a 1000 watt rms subwoofer for 30 minutes and it blew.what a surprise.
I was running the HDC3 sleaze has now off my 2200 @ .5 ohm and it handled it fine. And how do you not have enough room to double everything up, you have an explorer lol
