Best Wire/Value for dollar

First: 2/0 weld wire comes in alot higher strand count than 12.
Second: I have a system.

Third: my dad is an electrical engineer w/ an MBA & 25 years in the field..... I'll take his knowledge over yours any day. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Fourth: using car audio wire over welding cable might have something to do with sponsorship. Why spend thousands of dollars on welding cable when you can get sponsored. Also.... car audio cables are not true AWG wire, they are oversized...thus 1/0 car audio is bigger than 1/0 weld wire (which is true AWG), & that means a higher current capacity. It has absolutely nothing to do with strand count. All that does is makes the wire more flexible. Again.......

Strand count has nothing to do with DC current flow. It's all about the cross sectional area of copper.

this here is exactly what I have learned...

Your argument was that car audio wire has a higher current capacity than weld wire because of a higher strand count. And guess what: you are wrong, again.
strand count is for flexibility, call any wire supplier they will tell you the same thing.

I remember a similar thread from last year so I contacted a distant relative that owns 1 of the most prestigious wire companies around and he said the same thing...

thread count is for flexibility.. AWG ratings are a standard regardless of 1 strand or 2000 strands..same amount of current either way..

Well... I am going to have to look in my engine bay. My engine is in there pretty tight...so flexibility might be an issue.

I wonder if I should just keep my Install Bay 1/0 and run that. lol

The KNU dual amp kit is $125 so that would save me that much at least.

The reason some car audio wire has a higher current capacity than weld wire is because it is oversized & not true AWG, like weld wire. To think strand count adds to the current capacity is not only laughable, but saddening in that misinformation is being spewed to people in the tech section.

Weld wire can be difficult to route in vehicles, but it's still managable. But the knukonceptz wire is great, you'll like it.

weld wire can also be ran along the frame of the car if done right..

my camaro is done that way cuz there was no way i was gonna be able to run 2 runs of 1/0 thru the interior in an all original classic w/o damaging the originality.

Well I need power wire / rca's / speaker wire / fuse holders and fuses / big 3 wiring / terminals the whole 9 yards.

Redoing everything while I have the interior out for sound deadening.

My old wire came out of my Explorer, so it is cut at different lengths. I can salvage some of it, but do not want to crip together strands to make it long enough.

I might just buy the Knu stuff....it doesnt look to be bad wiring and I can get it all in one place with one shipping cost.

I was looking at the Knu Kollasal Fleks (or whatever the OFC stuff was, lol) and the Karma rca's and speaker wire.

Totalled everything with shipping ran about $300

Still looking though. Have a week before the tax check arrives.

Well I went to a few different sites and saw Tsunami / Stinger / Kicker etc etc etc and Knu was comparable in alot of areas.

The kit I was looking at was...

0 GAUGE DUAL AMP POWER KIT

It had the 1/0 power / 1/0 ground / fuse holder with fuses / distro block with fuses and 2 runs of 4ga from the block.

I was going to need about 13 to 14 ft of the power wire and use the other 4 to 5ft as the positive on the big 3.

The 1/0 ground would be used for 1 leg of the Big 3 also since I would have the 4 ga as the ground on the amps.

So after all said and done, $125 would get me power for my 2 amps and 2/3 of the big 3 done. For another $10 I would buy the remaining feet of ground.

Then the RCA's I was going to get the Karma 2ch and 4ch set.

Then 100ft of Karma 16g speaker wire (maybe 12..but dont think i need 12)

Then just odd and end fuses / fuse holder for the big 2 / terminals etc etc etc.

It was somewhere $200 to $300 depending on some options I added like a better distro block, bigger speaker wire.

A piece of 8ga for my sub box (not sure if that is enough but think so) and other odd and ends.

I have looked at my wiring in my civic and it is going to be fun. With the seats and carpet out I am sure I will find more room though.

I am only running 1600 watts total. Might upgrade to 2k but nothing more then that.

And if you guys give me suggestions I do research em. But I am lazy...I admit...it is almost worth it to me to spend an extra $20 at KNU or maybe even $40 to not go to 15 different sites and wait on 15 different places to send me stuff.

That is why I asked if you had any sites you go to often and buy stuff. A few sites is fine....lol. Just it was convenient at KNU to get it all.

But I am not a Knu nuthugger, lol. Just stumbled on the name and saw they had some decent stuff.

ive dealt with pretty much all of the wire that knu makes, the flex is very, very good wire, that said it is very expensive.

the cca stuff (kca)is over sized for car audio wire, and can be very hard to get through a car due to lack of flexibility

the karma speaker wire will be your worst nightmare when your stripping it due to the way it is cased.

Well from the look of it....it looks like twisted in a pvc sleeve?

Almost reminds me of ethernet wire...just with less actual wires.
