Is a 6 Farad capacitor too big?

Im running a total of about 1200W RMS power and my lights dim when heavy bass hits. My friend said he would sell me his 6 farad cap. So I guess my question is is it possible to have too big of a capacitor?
ppl here dont beleive in them... but Im about to try that on my own... see whats best for MY vehicle... plus its gonna be free... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

the most useful thing a cap is for is filterring out A/C ripple going to the amplifiers.

i would suggest doing the big 3 first then upgrade your battery in the front then if that doesnt work put another battery in the back near the amps.

a cap really wont work effectively in a spl set up, it will help for music peaks during normal play. and event then there has to be enough time for the cap to recharge itself before it is useful again.

have you tested the voltage at the battery terminlas and then again at the amplifier terminals, thereshould be no more then a .2 volt varience at the most.

you need to do the big 3 definitly thou.

i know this has been done before, put a small capacitor inline with your headligh power wires, that will stop your headlights dimming, but the problem is deeper then you r headlights dimming

if you charge the cap with a lightbulb, and then lick both terminals at the same time, it gets you high

you don't have to believe me, but the word on the street is that all the cool kids are doing it, and they all get lots of ***** from hot fictional best buy chicks that nobody takes pictures of (they're vampires)

LOL... Cool Im gonna go try it...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif  //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif :veryhapp:

I find it amazing that you have a legitimate question and people like to tell jokes or talk about things they know nothing about. To answer your question first, you will not hurt anything with your 6 farad capacitor. It should be hooked up by a pro or someone that has understanding of what it does. One of my systems is running a 6 farad with a 2400 watt rms PowerAcustik mono block amp and it works great. The amp is the real deal it uses 4 30 amp fuses so it looks like it is capable of drawing 120 amps from the electrical system before one of the fuses blows. I had this amp tested and it does put out 2400 watts rms at 1 ohm. I don't experience any headlights dimming or anything that lights up dimming when the bass hits. The basic need or use of a capacitor of any size is to store power until it is used. This is exactly what the one in your car does, it stores the voltage until the amp hits hard like when a bass note needs to be produced and then it uses the power it needs from the capacitor as opposed to putting a strain on your battery or your alternator. If you need any help just send me an email at abc6812@comcast.net
