Best single subsetup for SPL

I'm laughing here listening to the statement of 1 15" being louder then 2 12" in a trunk install assuming they are in equally HQ enclosures.. Soooooo untrue.
There is no replacement for displacement.

Personally, I've had 1 12" IDQ, 2 12" IDQs, 1 12" PG TI, 1 Type R 10", 1 Powerbase Xtreme 15", and 2 Kicker 10" L7s. All ported rear facing in ideal enclosures. Guess what was loudest? the 2 10" L7s. And guess what? It was also the largest enclosure of all of them. It consumed the entire trunk...

Don't believe me? Ask Mike Stiers.. The king of trunk installs.
doesn't mean thats as good as its gonna get...

You can't rear fire with 12's in the average trunk and be louder than the proper setup with a 15. Your comparing apples to oranges here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Rear firing and choking the trunk just doesn't work.

What is the "proper setup" with a 15?

I dont know who Mark Potts is, but I will discredit his SPL #'s in his signature until we know what mic and location the number was done at.

Type R's are junk, plain and simple. Of course Im running far superior SPL subs, so that is my very personal opinion. I've gotten a single 12 to wreck MULTIPLE woofer installs, only because my box was good. I'll agree with him there.

Get a 12, port it correctly, get appropriate power, and you will be happy.

Get a 15, choke it a bit, results may not be as great.

Im going to take my SPL set up out for the winter months and put a small 12 and low power to it, and build a good box, and be quite happy.

firing upwards in a trunk car isnt a very good idea.

adding a second sub and keeping the same power you have will give you some added output though. I wont say the typical 3db that most will, but yes you will notice by ear a difference.

Wrong.

You take 1 15" L7 and put it into the trunk, then take 2 12" L7s and put it into the same trunk, the 2 12" are going to be louder regardless of trunk size.

Oh yeah, your 151.9 is BS. If you really were doing a 151.9 you'd be tied with James Herren #23 in the world for Street A. He ranked #1 last year. You should go for a drive to Harrisburg and listen to his car. Maybe compare notes rofl.

I want to completely understand marks logic... so you would have an enclosure that is more deep than it is wide.. where do you place the subwoofer.. furthest away from the cabin?

What he is saying, is that he believes that if you make a box that is less than 60% of your overall trunk width with 1 12, it will be louder than an enclosure with 2 12s that takes up the whole width...

he just said deeper to make up for the less width

Also is there anyway to use less than 60% of the width and still use 2 drivers successfully
