Best Buy: Are you sh!tting me?

well first off common sense (if one was to know NOTHING about car audio) would tell you, The S comes after R, therefore it should be a newer/better model....
IE... A JL w3 is better than a JL w1. DD 9512 is better than a DD 9012. (note the higher numbers mean a better model)

Do you see a bit of a pattern here? But, like i said, that is knowing absolutely nothing about it... im pretty sure alpine S-R gets mentioned on here quite a bit.

Lol. thats like jl saying. Hmm.. new subwoofer line, lets call it the w6-1/2!!! It will totally beat out the w7.
There are plenty of people who prefer the W6 to the W7, if that helps.

It would be nice if B & M dealers would provide a service worth paying for.I know there are those that do, but most of the ones I encounter do not. Their products are typically entry level (can't really blame them b/c that is what sells), their dispays usually do not work (so why not buy off the internet), their employees are generally ill informed (can get much better info here) and they charge too much for installation that is shitty.

I really wish the above was not the case, but that has been my experience for the most part.
im not defending BB im defending the other shops ..i still would take BB over ebay though lol. trust me if things keep going the way they are the people who buy deals on-line will wish it was 2003 all over again because EVENTUALLY when it becomes the norm to buy this way those sellers are going to want paid..why? if they are only in competition with eachother and they KNOW you dont have a shop within 200 miles of you they will start making 20+++ points on a sale rather than 10. then when the distributors close up and they are forced to buy direct and shell out 5-20k in product they will start gaining overhead!

i think most people would prefer a place that actually has the item in stock and you can see it rather than something online that could be a scam.

The stores are nice because you can actually check out the product before you buy it online, for a much cheaper price mind you.

That's why I went to Best Buy, to check out the 9885 and see if I liked it, which I did (VERY much), so I came home and placed an order (but ended up getting the 9886). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

x50 plus if you really want to get technical when i was an installer at best buy the average system installed by the car owners was WELL below that of a bad bb install. unless you feel 4 ga power wire butt connected to 8 ga to get through the door jam then butted back to 4 is a good thing lol

I don't disagree -- it is similar to what Wal -Mart has always intended to do.

BTW, I was talking about independent audio shops rather than the big boxes. It is sad -- but true. I would be willing to pay a premium -- if they provided a service that was worth having. In other words, if a local shop could provide info & superior installation assistance that would add value to my overall system I would use them. That just has not been the case.

yes but it may be cheaper online but unless you buy it from a site like sonicelectronix or the alpine site how would you know it is not a scam as if you were going to buy it on ebay?

so like you are saying you are better off buying from someone at a cheaper price who cant do anything more than email you or talk to you on the phone? or even worse yet PROBABLY couldnt help you at all? do you actually think those non authorized stores online can actually get a GOOD warranty? ever look to see some of the BAD feedback those places get?

That's where research comes in to play. How long has the site been around, is it reputable, how is their feedback?
show me an authorized dealer selling for so cheap that it is worth your time....lol also like i said in the near furure when those net places arent getting transhipped "deals" the prices will go up

I think if I sat down and shared some of my experiences with you regarding B & M shops you would understand where I am coming from.

Believe me, I am not one of these sharpshooters who just loves to go in and make an *** out of a salesguy, in fact I despise those types. I go in hoping that the sales people know what they are talking about. But when it is obvious that they do not, and their displays do not work so that you can actually compare the products and their description of how they install the equip't is substandard, then why should I purchase from them?

The warranty is simply not enough. When you get into that you are just talking money -- and if the product costs twice as much as I can get it for online the question becomes do I want to pay double for the warranty. No, I would not buy an extended warranty that costs that much in realtion to the value of the product so I am certainly not gojng to "buy" the manufacturer's limiited warranty under those terms. It simply is not a strong enough selling point.

who is talking extended warranties? i quit trying so hard to sell those when i didnt get the sup job i was "near promised" and discovered how some stores sold, took care of- and charged for things that were not outlined as such to charge for. example charge 4 bucks on misulanious parts then turn right around and charge them 5 cents for every crip and 10 cents for every wire tie and then 30 cents for every screw.... me personally i dont play that way.

when you buy via internet non authorized you are buying a product that the maker of that product doesnt even want them to sell much less warranty.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

so you are taking a chance that either their transhipper will take care of you or that they have a repairman that hopefully can fix it.

I was just trying to make the point that, just as:

I would not buy an extended warranty that would double the price of the product;

I will also not pay twice as much for the product from a B & M just to get a manufactrurer's warranty.

The warranty is, in and of itself, simply not enough reason for me to pay twice as much for the product in a retail store. Again, I am not saying that I would never be willing to pay a premium in a retail store -- but the retailer is barking up the wrong tree if the retailer thinks that the warranty is enough to get my business.

Let's face it, the retailer of audio has a huge challenge in front of him to compete for business in light of online prices. The retailer is going to have to figure out a way to stay competitive. At least as far as I am concerned, the beneifit that the retailer could offer would be expertise and service. And I am saying that they are not doing that.
