Best Buy: Are you sh!tting me?

Obviously I disagree. Retailers can either adapt (as well all must do in business) and stay in business or they can remain hardheaded, continue to blame others and go fill out an application at BB.
ok so they obviously should make what 15% mark up? and warranty everything for as long as one owns it? do show car quality installs for the same price as bb?

lol

what is going on-line would kill any business if ebay or the like directly does what your business does.

why would you invest in $60000 in product that if you sold it all at one time (which you wont!) to make 6-10 grand? that is just product that doesnt include a building, an install bay, paying good installers, tools, advertising, paying knowledgable salesmen, sales tax, shipping product for warranty........//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

based upon your arguement also please tell me how what i said wouldnt happen? the guys that tranship buy 100k-1m of product at a time. when they no longer do because they arent selling enough at the normal profit rate their deep discount is no longer deep. then when they are making less as a whole per sale they will go under. point of being in business is to make money not skate by so everyone can get at a discount.

Removing your time/labor from your bussiness would you stay in bussiness if you did work for 10% over the cost of the materials you used? would be pretty pointless wouldnt it?

If the trends are moving towards self-installing or buying products online, so the business will change. When RF, etc noticed audiobling flash was selling, the modified their business. They didn't go out of business.

Say I was a pretty good installer, I might not even sell equipment, just offer installs.

Do know know what the profit margin of grocery stores are? A good one makes 3%, a great one 5%...and some niche markets make around 7%. So a grocery store can make it on 3% but a car audio shop can't make it on 10%?

There will still be car audio companies. I have no idea why you think that car audio will disappear. Will they change thei business models, probably, disappear. Not likely.
As for the hosting of shows...well most people who like car audio much prefer these mini-meets we have from time to time. Ain't much fun going to shows when every car has a tarp over it and won't asnwer any questions about their setup.
you do realize that the profit pioneer, eclipse, (place your manufacturer name here unless it isnt in shops) gets is from the shop you buy from and not you directly right? lol

It's called retail, idiot.
People amaze me. Do you have any clue how much overhead costs they have to deal with? There's a reason ebay sellers can sell equipment for half of what it is in a large corporation like BB- they don't have to worry about the massive amounts of overhead costs companies deal with.

Ugh.
If you really take a good look at ebay sellers, sure you will see that they might have a great BIN price, but they also have astronomical shipping prices to go with it. Add the two together and you will find that you actually paid more for the product than you can get from the online etailers. So sometimes ebay isn't really such a good deal. The bottom line is you still have to do your homework to find the best prices. If I can get a system for half the price of retail, then I have no qualms about spending some of the savings to get my system professionally installed, thus supporting the local car audio shops.

I am not just going to donate money to a portion of an industry for the helluva of it. They have to provide a service to make it worth the extra money. If they will not do that it is certainly not my fault if they go out of business.

the store i work at pays $90,000 a month rent and over $45,000 a week payrole a week and $28,000 a month on electricity and a week do $575,000- $650,000 in sales if the markup was your so called 3% how woukd we stay in business
I don't think that anyone really cares how much your store pays for a gallon of milk. You just keep putting it on the shelf hero.
