Beginner: Need Help selecting Amp/sub Combo

I'm trying to put together a subwoofer system for my car but I dont completely understand how to select the proper amp for the subs. I was looking at Pioneer Premier TS-W1207D2/4. They have a 400 Watt RMS with 1200W peak power. I plan on running a pair. The amp I looked at was Phoenix Gold RSd1200.1. It can be wired to run 780RMS at 4-ohms (if not 4 then 2). Is this a good match? What would be the proper way to wire it if so? What is the difference in running 2-ohm to 4-ohm? If this is not a good match what would be better? When you run 2 subwoofers does it split the power of the amplifier? Whats your budget, goals, and car? And im assuming by your post you are looking for 2 12s?

I drive a 03 Jetta so there is plenty of trunk space. I dont want to spend tons, maybe around 500 or less. Yes I would like to run 2 12s. I would like it to have a clean sound. Probably a sealed box.

thanks for all the recomendations. My budget is flexible. Just used 500 as a base mark to start with.

Thats always the case but your run the risk of bad equipment, no warranty.

everything is already wired because of the previos setup that I had. I dont like it anymore though. I used to listen to alot of rap which it was great for but it can't keep up with the faster beats of rock, tends to drag through sharp bass line. 500 would include just amp and subs

Also from the cars I have sat in I prefer the sounds made by the systems using a sealed box over ported.
