hey last night my friend came to jump wire my car...it was hooked up for like 20 minutes and when it was hooked up, everything was working fine...then he unplugged it and my car ran..then i shut it off to see if it came back on, and it didnt. Anyone now whats wrong?

should i buy a new alternator? or a new battery? or both? or what?

first off, what did you do to kill your battery?

Lead acid batteries generally don't come back from an overdischarge situation, just part of their design...might be time to look into a new battery.

If you jumped it and the car was running without the cables connecter, then the alt. is good. The batt. is bad because it wont hold a charge and restart the car. I still recommend as so did others to get them tested. First though, clean you batt. termanals, and connectors. Sometimes it just bad connection. Also If you buy a new batt. get an optimum batt. or equivalent. Schuck sells a good one for cheaper the optimum.

occasionaly a struggling alt will make enough juice to run the motor but not enough to charge the battery in which both may need replaced because battery got deaded from struggling at. but yeah thats good advice.

well when my alt went out.....i could jump it and it would run for like a block and then it would die so then my dad and i went and got an alt for my ride and everything works fine

a fused cell in the battery grounding out your whole car.... if it was hooked up for 20 minutes it should have charged the battery enough to keep it running a little while. and the alternator should keep it running if the battery was just dead. so a fused cell......

Well, to whom ever that asked what noise my car is making when i try to start it...it makes a clicking noise. I can't go to autozone with it yet because i dont have a license and car isnt registered until the 23rd of nov (not long till i start drivin!) Ill have my step dad lookj at it, he knows what hes talking about. Then from there if he doesn't know Ill take it to autozone and have htem test it.. I was thinkin of buyin a new batt anyway because wouldnt it be much better just overall? One of those car audio batteries for 150 bucks =] hellz yeah! Thank you all for all the reply's..
