Battery question

Alt size? If it doesnt say on the alt's case, you should be able to find it in your owner's manual, online, or even simply by calling a local parts store.

From what I can find his alt is 130 amps stock.

Well 130 isn't very big, but its big enough to avoid me saying he definitely needs a bigger one. I would proceed in the usual fashion of going with cheapest/easiest fixes first, to most expensive and hardest fixes last. Start by doing the big 3. Triple check all wiring to the amp, and consider trying the ground somewhere else or with a better connection type. As for a new batt, it really depends on the condition and quality of his current batt. A secondary batt in the rear might help (a lot), but the added wiring and relay or isolator makes it fairly expensive. That should be considered tied for last with getting a new alt. Follow those steps until the problem is solved. Or living with dimming headlights.

Oh, and the JL slash series of amplifiers are a pretty inefficient design. A different amplifier choice might help as well.

I run 1500 watts RMS in my saturn with a stock 140 amp alternator and a optima yellowtop for car battery and I don't have any dimming problems. He shouldn't have any problems either on only 500 watts.
