Battery Brains I could use your insight Plz

some were actually in under/in a bench seat/bed on the interior..If it was not an issue why would they put them just anywhere or just tap a hole in a compartment without the full box?
Because the batteries, in all the places you listed, are in a confined space where any expelled gas can build up much quicker.

My battery is in the cabin of my truck, an area probably considerably larger than any of those areas. If my battery, for some reason, did expel some gas, it would take a large amount for an explosion to occur. And by that time I'm fairly certain that something is wrong and won't make any sudden decisions.

The only battery I've seen explode because of gas buildup was at db drag finals last year, and it was a batcap that has a bunch of hawker cells inside a small metal case. The space was easily filled up and the battery charger sparked causing the case itself to explode.

WRONG. Flooded batts ONLY expel hydrogen when there IS A PROBLEM WITH THE CHARGING SYSTEM.
That is why all of the cautions that you claim is 'proof' states that it MAY expel hydrogen. These days companies will caution for everything no matter how slim the chances are.

Under normal conditions it does not leak any dangerous amounts. Stop spreading bad info.
I am an ase certified master tech and you are 100% correct. there is no insurance laws or rules that make it so they dont have to pay either otherwise 1/2 the semi's on the road wouldn't pass a dot inspection as 90% of them have 4 - 10 batterys in a sealed box with no vents and the terminals carry so much current that they constantly wear out from arcing.
for 1 competition you can safely use the batteries in the manner you want.

hey also go check out nhra drag racing rules for safety on battery placement. it has to be mounted in the trunk of a car dude, hmm isnt a trunk sealed? and they dont require venting in the trunk either wow thats odd?

if you are going to say someone is wrong then have facts not propaganga or false rhetoric.

yes there is a chance it can explode if a high voltage spak comes in contact with any large amount of expelled gassing, but there is also a chasnce you take it in the *** but we aren't commenting about that are we?

Thanks for the backup guys, but at this point I really don't care anymore.

I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing, and so are my teammates. Let the other "intelligent" people think what they want. It's much easier that way.

An RV is smaller than an S-10? This space I am talking about you could more than likely put 4+ bodies into no problem. Those flooded batteries can leak and the gas released are toxic. I used to run flooded batteries from 1990 - mid 90's. There is a reason you have to ADD water to them every so often as well. I can tell you from pulling the batteries out (they were bracketed down in a vented box) that spillage and vapor still caused damage to the metal under the enclosure and to the enclosure itself and it was more than just water or water vapor that did damage. Hell a custom Harley kit bike we built in the fall of 2004 had a wally world flooded cell in it and by fall 2006 it started to eat at the inside bottom of its battery tray/box, the chrome was gone over 25% on the bottom inside. top of the battery looked fine and that bike was never in rain.

Ok, you've made your point. Many, many times.

Everyone else stopped caring a long time ago.

I can check this out rather easily with a trucking company but for some odd reason 2 of the semi's I put XM radio's in had a battery box that WAS not part of the cabin and also I know one of my good life long friends has a newer semi truck that he uses to haul his kids race trailer around the country and I was pretty positive it had a battery box in it as its a full sized sleeper that he uses to take his family in. Pretty sure it had a vented battery box.

The battery insurance thing I am not 100% certain on but the fusing part I am sure of, just seems to me installing anything with many precations on it that were not followed and ignored just seems to me if that was found to be the actual cause of the problem why would it be covered under the user's/installer's negligence? Only thing I do know is they were pretty anal about it. I also seem to remember a truck at usaci finals when it was still in KC that had a tray of flooded cells catch on fire and they ended up rolling it out in a hurry to get put out. That was around 2000-2001 IIRC. I have also seen many other batteries fail at shows from between 1993-1998..In IASCA and USACI SQ format the battery venting rule is still followed regardless of battery type.

So I should just take your word over the manufacturers? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I have given link after link backing up my stance, yet you simply come here bashing me without a single shred of knowledge or evidence. If you want to disprove me, fine. I will be waiting.

You might want to check with th NHRA and see just what type of batteries they use.... OH that's right, they use SEALED AGM batteries.

Have a fucking clue before you make posts from now on.

Thanks for the backup guys, but at this point I really don't care anymore.

I really could give a rats *** what you or your teammates do, as long as you don't give poor advice to the people coming here looking for sound advice.

If people were coming here asking how to avoid getting AIDS, would you say condoms are useless because you never used them and you still never caught AIDS?

You're still talking?

While I agree that the suggestion of using unsealed batteries isn't the best, I have seen it properly done. The question that needs to be answered is: how frequently do people get injured or lose their car from doing this?

Loop, I think you get WAY too far into what you read. All I ever see is, "I got this information from here, I got that information from there." I hope that you don't seriously believe everything that you read. A little real-life experience is needed in your posts.

properly done would be with a vented battery box LOL..let me ask you this..when you touch a flooded cell battery is it a good idea to wash your hands afterwards?

you should. yes.

i've carried flooded batteries before, and where they rubbed on my pants (after washing) there were small holes where the acid ate thru.

Well since I am not dumb enough to put a flooded battery inside my car to prove the point, I will post a few people that learned the hard way:

Example 1

Example 2

You can search yourself for the horror stories. There simply is no reason to take the risk. If you want to do it, go ahead. Just don't come on a public forum and advocate the use.

As I said, I don't think it's the best option. I do agree, it isn't as safe of a choice. I don't even have batteries in my cabin, I have one under the hood and 2 in the tool box. If i can avoid having a battery inside my car, then I will.

The thing that bugs me is that all your answers come from a google search. I compete and know people who have unsealed batteries in their car. I do not know of anyone that has lost their car due to unsealed batteries. All of the cars that I know of that have caught on fire were due to wiring issues, such as shorting of their batteries.

my dick is still quite large //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i'd even venture to say it's much larger than all of your's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
