All I can tell you is this, having put video systems in RV's and upgrading their batteries to new replacements EVERY single one had a vented battery box and IT was looked over by a mechanic to make sure the tube was right before it left the lot (which it was). An RV is much larger and opened space than a car or an suv. I would imagine that it had something to do with safety issues with insurance and such, much the same as using proper fusing . Some will tell you not to do it. If you get an electrical fire any insurance place that knows wtf they are doing will not cut a check without knowing who did the improper install to IN TURN go after that person. Same thing more than likely can be said for proper ventilation for a flooded battery. When I put mine in back in the early 90's we had to at least have a tube to the outside of the car from the box the battery was in. Otherwise when scored they would call it a saftey hazzard and deduct install points.
