BATTERIES. Why do so many people add them?

The 80 amps is what the alt can discharge on it's own. Once the voltage gets to the level where the batts start to help out, then they have their own discharge rate on top of the 80amp alt.
Best explanation ITT. An alternator only does so much. Even if its 300+ amps. If you're pulling more than your alt can supply, batteries are there to back it up.

K. I think I got it then. That's the part I didn't really grasp

But still, I am right in the fact that a higher out put alt is still much more effective than stock piling batteries in yer trunk off a stock alt.

I do and always was aware that your alt can only provide so much, but im talking about daily driver setups, not demo vehicles with 20kwrms. Obviously those need battery banks.

Batteries are still more budget friendly. A $400-500 dollar alt isnt always the best option for a lot of people. When you can spend ~$100-$150 and solve the problem in a lot of cases with small daily driver systems.

Yea.. for dual batteries though. Anymore than one extra batt I think is just obnoxious, if you cant buy an alt for your car stop putting money into it and get a better car.

I mean, doesnt everyone buy their cars for bass?

your stupid. You going to tell me your going to run 5-12k on a big alt and 1 extra battery

For me I wasnt paying $400-500 for an alt when I could "do the same thing" with batteries (Im running 2 batteries). Now if my voltage still isnt stable, I will consider an upgraded alt. But I wasnt dropping that kind of money in an alt before I knew I needed it

capacitative discharge (yes i think i made that up )

even a daily driver setup can be helped by a capacitor or a good (car audio) battery in the rear

is short your h/o (or stock) will not have to work as hard / beleive it or not you can burn out an alt drawing too much current thru it

an alt is only designed to operate your electrical system (including audio) a by product of this is that it also "charges" your batteries

just my 2¢

LOL I would certainly hope that people don't buy there car for only the purpose of how big of a system they can put in it. That would be really stupid IMO.

They just have to learn to work around it.

For instance. I have a jetta. The largest alternator I can find for it is 270A. BUTTTT. Thanks to a friend of mine who is a CNC machinist/programmer. I bought a 380A alternator that has similar mounts. And he is going to mount it on my alternator bracket. And I ditched my A/C (pointless in WI) and he is going to see if he can squeeze a 2nd alternator in its place!

I would never go out and buy a car based on my bass needs.

...you have a 98 mustang..
whats your point. I am still louder than you and will always be. And i am alot smarter than you when it comes to this sh1t to.
are you ever going to run 10k + in your daily driver. Yah i dont think so. How about you listen to some of us that know what we are talking about
