BATTERIES. Why do so many people add them?

I have been wondering this for a long time and it seems like an ever growing trend here especially on these forums.

Why are people adding so many batteries to their system?

I understand if you have a show car and you are parked most of the time doing demos.. thats fine.

But for your daily driver bass vehicle, why add 5 batteries?

A battery holds its charge just to start the vehicle.. after that the alternator takes over and provides current to recharge the battery and provide electricity while driving.

So why are people adding 3+ batteries?

For instance I just posted in a thread a guy said he has 80 amp alt but 4 batteries... in the end he is only still producing 80 amps.. so why the batteries?

Enlighten me please.

edit: I understand the importance of a GOOD battery in a system. I am simply talking about 2/3+ batteries in a smaller system (2-5kwrms)

A single extra 120ah battery in my car helps a whole lot.

In my blazer id get into low 12's with my amp, added that battery, and id never go below mid 13's

Just because you have a strong alt, doesnt mean you have anywhere to store that energy. Why would you even upgrade your main battery then? The point is to have that energy reserve when your alternator cannot keep up or vice a versa.

Its about the reserve capacity. A ggod battery will store a lot of current and discharge it fast and recharge fast.

You could probably do a D3100 or a Batcap 4000, and a HUGE alternator, or possibly 2. But you arent gonna be able to run very long with the car off.

Sometimes thats what your money calls for. Not everyone is able to get a big alt, either it wont fit, isnt made for their car, or other restrictions. I wish I had a big alt and a bunch of batts!

I would take the 300 amp alternator and one battery, but that doesn't mean I wouldnt' buy more batteries for later on.
