Basic Setup help

[T-focus]

Hi, I'm Tim and want to upgrade my basic ford focus zetec speakers. i've installed a kenwood headunit 50w rms. i dont want to run a seperate amp or sub, ideally would like to keep speakers in current position unless thats a major no no. i like the sound that the infinity's produce. just need help with which ones?

options.

5x7's in door or a round speaker with a mount.

in back, 6 x9's on parcel shelf to get lower end.

some people i've talked to recommend 6x9's, others say waste of time. to me it makes sense to have better speakers up front. just whats the best way to gt lower end without a sub.

Infinity speakers are okay, but not the greatest. They can be had for cheap on eBay if you go looking a bit.

For the front: You can choose from component speakers and coaxial speakers. Components have a separate woofer and tweeter, and a crossover to send the appropriate frequencies to each. This allows you to place the tweeters in a better location to create a nicer soundstage, and they generally sound cleaner than coaxials without crossovers. I believe that Infinity makes a component system with a 5x7" woofer...I've seen it on ebay (I have a Sable, also with the silly 5x7 size). You can also buy small 5x7>6.5" round adapters,or just make your own, to solve that problem.

Components are more expensive though, so if you really don't want to spend a lot, you might be better with coaxials. (Coaxials are the "normal" speakers with the woofer and tweeter in one).

As for the rear, coaxials will work fine. You can go with 6x9s for some extra bass, but honestly, the thing that will help the low (and high) the most is an amplifier.
