to take the bottom cover off you will need a T-10 torx (star)

they arent torqued that much so try using a philips or flat and apply some pressure and turn.

I whipped out my little tool set and it turns out i do have a t10 bit

I took off the cover and nothing is wrong with its guts

All car audio DIY'ers should have a set of torx bits/screwdrivers/whatever. Pick em up at your local auto parts store.
