Basically, i never really researched amps etc and i would like to know, ok i see all the power ratings like 1x500w @ 4 ohms, then another for the same one 1x1200 @ 2 ohms . what interests me is to know .. how do you change the resistance? [ohms] that has always been my big question, and since i am just getting a car i am interesting in knowing a bit further in order to build a decent system.

The impedance rating of speaker voice coils is part of their design. You chose speakers and amps as a system, matching eact to the other. There is a lot of flexibility and it can seem complicated, but not really...

With that amp you can run one 4 ohm speaker and the amp will deliver 500 watts. Or you can run two 4 ohm speakers in parallel (which makes 2 ohms) and get 1200 watts. Or you can run one speaker with dual 4 ohm voice coils in parallel and also get 1200 watts.

Some speakers have dual voice coils and you can put them in series or parallel to whatever configuration you need to come up with the combined impedance to match the amp you want to use.

ah thanks. i think though i may just go for a combo box such as a vibe one, and get some good components for the front, running off a two-channel kenwood amp i got, and maybe run the factory speakers at the back off the radio to fill out the rear sound a bit. would this be a good starting point?

two good combos up front, running off a kenwood PS200T amp, and a combination amp/sub in the boot, probably a 12", and running the two rear factory speakers off the radio [18w only //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ]. the radio is a nacamichi T20 [Autobacks edition] i know its old and a 7-disc nacamichi cd changer, i got the amp/radio/changer for free //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and i want to build a system around that. i am pretty low on budget, what would you recommend as front components that would provide me with powerful good sound but not leave a hole in my pocket? oh and whats the biggest size i can fit in the factory position without any need for a speaker pod? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

oh yeah the car is a bog standard [for now at least //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif] golf mk2 gti 4 door
