Assassin 12's vs. Type R 12's

Right now I have a pair of Assasin 12's getting 800W total in a 3.5ft^3 @ 32Hz box.

Do you think it'd be louder if I went to a pair of Type R 12's with a Hifonics BXi1606D (1600W @ 1ohm) in the same box?

Is that box way too small for two Type R's? I could probably build a new one if it'd be worth it.

Any other suggestions for a louder setup for around $500 (amp and subs, shipped)?

i had that setup and it was loud as hell in my explorer.. i find it hard to believe it wouldnt be louder than what you have now..

box is kinda small.. you could do it for a while but you would see a big improvement with a 4-5 cube box im sure.

did you happen to get it metered?

i think i'd be using that box for a while, but i think i could eventually make a new box.

i'm thinking about making a 4ft^3 @ 40Hz (SPL) box sometime.

i figure four 4" aero ports (17" long) and a box with the same dimensions as my current box (32x14x23) would get it done (~4ft^3).

any idea how an aero ported CRX style box would do in trunk? (as opposed to the box in my avatar).

back when i had a sealed box i tried it facing up, and it was a bit louder towards the taillights.

try the rs..ok wait until saturday..ill have a pair then..and ill tel ya wat i t hink..
so, what are you getting? assassin's? arsenals? type r's? what have you ran in the past?

i have mine in 3.5 cubes no problems at all...

Verry impressed with them i might build a bigger box tuned a lil higher in the future for local comps

never got it metered.. i had a couple boxes, one was 4.5 cubes @33hz, the other 4.5 @ 39..

the second box was tuned WAY too high for those subs.. they dont play 45hz+ all that loudly anyway, so yeah that box would WANG like balls on stuff from 40-45 hz, but then it trailled off a little above that, and trailed off quickly below that.

the 33hz box was nice, it really took atvantage of those low notes and the Rs' low end tendencies..

although no meter, on the spl box, my ears were in pain pretty quickly, and the door opening lever in my hatch roke from vibration i would assume (my hatch sounded absolutely retarded).

but keep in mind this was in an explorer and i had pretty serious cabin gain

yeah i would recomend 32-36 for daly but have heard some people like to be tunned in upper 30's to mid 40's so try it out and let us know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i dont know what you listen to, if i tune my box to anything higher than like 33, alot of songs dont sound right to me
what subs do you have?

if i have some free time and extra money (~$60 for the aeroports) i might give it a shot, just for fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

EDIT: or i could just do the same box i have now, but with a 12" long port (instead of 34") and it goes from:

3.5ft^3 @ 32Hz plans

to

4.25ft^3 @ 42Hz plans

but i like the aero ports, for that 'SPL competitor' look //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

EDIT II: winisd says i'll gain 3dB and only peak 2Hz higher (f3 will also be 2Hz higher)

sounds like fun!

that box falls under the parameters alpine recommends for 2 12" aaaaaaarrrs yeah it could use bigger but thats fine and it will be louder than the assassins I beleive.

if i'm gonna spend $500 they'd better be louder! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i think i might just try building the box, and throw the assassins in it (3dB for free!).

maybe in a couple weeks if i have some free time. i can't wait!
