i have a 94 jetta with a sony xplod hu. A sony xplod 12" sub with a 1000 watt amp and my headunit is acting up.

sound plays fine on the radio but when i turn it to cd it only works at a low volume , so when i go to turn it up it doesnt work what could be the problem?

thanks for the help.

on some sony head units there is input source volume adjustments, i.e. you can adjust the output levels from radio, cd, usb, etc. to be independent from each other. I would look at this first. is it a newer sony HU?
i dont think so it was in the car when i got it.

Do you mean that the music cuts out all together when you turn the CD up, or does it just play way quieter than the radio?

do you have a model number? is it the same situation regardless of what CD you try to play? Do you have anything like a front input that you can plug an MP3 player into? Is it the same in that case?

yes any cd it does it

no front input

the answer to the last question would help. Try resetting the entire unit. EQ settings can be set independently for each source. it is possible that the EQ for the CD setting is all the way down.

To reset the device flip open the HU and there should be a tiny recessed button below the disc slot. take a paperclip to push it in and hold it for about 10 seconds and release.

Here is the manual to your unit.

well,, i dont know what to tell you then. Maybe some other members can help more. Seems to me the HU might be shot. It is a pretty old model. Have you asked the previous owner of the car if they had the same problem?

I have a sonly head unit i can sell if you want. It has the same wiring harness so all you would have to do is pull out the old one and plug in the new one. Could sell it to you for 45 dollars plus shipping.
