any of you queers powerlift or frequent the gym?

I go in and out with working out. Sometimes I go everyday for a few hours for a few months then I stop for like a year and get flabby again. Never been great at benchpressing, been more into arms and squatting. Never had much luck with supplements but like the guys at westside barbell say: if your're not using roids you're not trying hard enough.

i fully endorse this sentiment...i simply view roids as comparable to running an amp at 18volts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

op if you're thinking about doing strongman training DO IT. Don't think about it just do it. Sure, it takes some practice using some of the apparatuses but you'll see much faster gains then just weights alone. And don't put much time or thought into what supplements to take. Most are useless. Whey protein for a meal supplement(NOT REPLACEMENT), black coffee for a little energy, and 25-50mg a day of DHEA to give a little help to testosterone production.

Depends on where you are. On my hs football team there were 4 people who could squat over 400 (including me). Go into any college gym, it is pretty common place to see someone putting up significant weight. Good thing with power clean and barely anyone knows how to do it, so it is more impressive when you do it well.
2 of the gyms were college gyms, one was a big ten school that i was at for 3 years. (they weren't the facilities for athletes though)

I'm 21. I can post a vid of me doin 350x3. If I need to. In hs we had 12 kids benchin 300+
i'd rather see this alleged 17 year old 500lb+ squat

I can agree 100% on the lack of motivation in the gym. Been there

I may need tips on this. I never really did anything seriously with the intent on strongman training before now

I squatted 500 full parallell in hs. And 775 box or quarter squats. Leg pressed over 1000

Truth is most people don't squat to full depth....I know wayyy to many people who claim 400+, but they only do quarter squats
Word! Squat or die. That was my fav lift in hs

We did full parallel squats in high school. I was able to put up 425 at 185 pounds, not too shabby. I went to a football camp at university of Washington my junior year. We did a bunch of weightlifting tests. It was hilarious watching people brag about squatting 500 pounds and then I see them doing quarter squats. Fegs.

The gym at uw here (intramural gym) has an awesome weightroom. Occasionally I see people repping out 4 plates on squat. 315 is about as much as I have seen people rep out on bench. I have never seen anyone power clean more than me though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I did olympic weightlifting comps in ghigh school. Clean and Jerk and snatch. I got second in my weight class my first year and dqed my second year because I royally fcked up my shoulder jerking (lol I know). I got out of it, just not enough time to keep in competitive shape in college. Maybe someday I will get back to it.

To me, the best motivation for working out is to have a clear goal or purpose to it. Personally, it's part of my job, not really a hobby.

Obviously diet and specific programs are implemented to achieve whatever goals you are trying to attain. Mine are speed, quickness and strength ratios. Not going for maximum mass. For me, explosiveness, body control, and flexibility are crucial.

As far as supplements, look into certain diets contrived of specific foods. Powders and pills aren't all bad, but many have damaging effects on muscle and add (temporary) water weight.

Man I can't lie.. I only cleaned 280 in hs. Snatched 260. Benched 325. Squatted 505. We didn't deadlift. Hell we had a kid in my class who benched 415 his senior year..

I haven't snatched/cleaned in over 3yrs.. but my current bench is 365 and 480 parallel squat (just playing around in the gym)

Those aren't bad numbers. At what weight?? My bench has never been good. I've worked and worked at it for years but I could never get past 260. So I concentrated on other things. I was good at football which is all I cared about at the time. Numbers didn't mean all that much to me (still don't really)

I was a guard and defensive end. I went to a small school, so not a large selection of big guys. Still managed to handle most of my opponents. We as a team were not very good my junior or senior year
