Assuming you have full coverage, you can take them out secretly and wait to see if they break in your car to get them only to be let down.

Is the trunk the only way you can get your box out? Does your seats fold down(lock)?

If the trunk is the only way,you can do what I use to do and chain your trunk lid to the body of the trunk with a pad lock. Leave on enough space for you to reach in and lock/unlock the pad.
