Amp setting help

So my tidal audio sub came in finally and it works nicely. I have a kicker dx250.1 running at 2 ohms. I feel like something is wrong. I turned everything on the head unit to zero and turned the subwoofer output to max and set my listening volume to 32/35 for max. Played a 60hz sine wave and set the gain to 22.36 via the calculation I did. If I turn the subwoofer output down the subwoofer is like nothing. The subwoofer output works well with the amp bass boost on (bad I know) and while checking the gain while playing music I got 25.5 max reading so I dialed the the gain back and it still sounds way better. What is my issue here did I set the gain improperly and am I going to ruin the sub with bass boost? I hear no distortion from the sub but I have never set gain this way. Any help is appreciated.
