amp rack build in progress

OMG I did the same thing last year when pulling my cables through. they got snagged, and I was trying pull it through. Then my hand just slipped and I ripped off the plug. I'm pretty sure I said the same thing as you.

I scrapped the JK logo under the lid and just went with straight vinyl. All that's left really on the build is to apply the aluminum trim on top of the front wall and attach the cam locks on the lid. Oh, and then install it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

very nice..... im doing an amp rack this weekend to house my 2 sub amps. plexi glass 7 60mm fans, prob only use 6 of them though. carpet, etc.... im definately going to pick up some of those rubber snap in grommets, and probably pick up two of those hinges.

couple ?'s. how should i arrange my fans. the amp rack will be 32 - 33" long and 13" tall, 3.25 deep not including top baffle?

does the top baffle seal tight with those hinges?

any recommendations...... show off internals? show off case of amp?

if i show off internals, what the best way to mount them the amp rack? should i bolt down the amp to the top baffle? should i make an enclosure and then drop the amp upside down and bolt it down on the top. then make a recessed grill type of baffle?

how did u mount the fans? i dont see any screws?

I installed the fans in a push-pull configuration. One fan pushed air into the rack while the other pulls air out to generate some air flow within. Installing them flush in opposite ends of the cover (blowing down into and out of the rack) would also worked.

The hinges are the self-closing type, once the cover passes 45 degrees the hinges pull inward and secure it down tight.

If you're doing plexi in the cover most people show off the top of the amps. Personal preference here. If you plan on mounting the amp upsidedown to the top baffle to show the internals, how will you run the wiring?

I used epoxy to secure the fans in the sidewalls. The 4 screw holes on the fans were useless for my application.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

so in other words mounting the fans on the sides / and or the front baffle also works? ive seen people mount 4 fans together pushing air in with 2 fans pulling air out. one on each side mounted next to the 4 firing toward the back baffle. i think im going to do the sides however..... since it'll help with the audioble noise of the fans which will be on non stop.

Mike-

Very clean and impressive. I love brushed aluminum. I'd like to see it when installed.

As previously mentioned, having more fans pulling than pushing is much more effective than the other way around. The air pressure inside of the box will increase if you push more air than you pull, making it more stuffy in the box.

so have 4 pull meaning blowing out of the amp rack and have 3 blowing in?

Mike

i bought the grommets today and black felt carpet... all i need is 2 hinges cause ace had crappy ones.

Excellent Craftsmanship. Looks like alot of planning and time well spent.

Suggestion on the fans: I have 4x 60mm fans in my amp rack and even though they're the quiet kind, at 100% power they're quite loud. I would highly suggest looking into a thermo switch. Stinger makes one for around $30 here:

I just bought one for my amp rack. I will be using a 5v voltage regulator to keep the fans running at 40% whenever the systems is on and the thermal switch will kick it up to 100% if it gets too hot.
