amp in protect.. need help ..

You probably blew it or something...

His gain setting won't be the same as what yours should be unless you have the exact same HU putting out the exact same preout voltage to the amp

If he had a lower preout voltage than you, you definitely could've been clipping and pushing it beyond its limits, either way you should always set it once its installed in YOUR car...thats the whole point of the gain setting on an amp, is to adjust to individual preout voltages which vary widely

no possible way to call this "user error" i have had 10+ amps hooked up in this same car not one has crapped out ... also like i said before the guy i bought it from had the same cubs on the same amp hooked up the same way with the same level adjustments ..

and no i haven't gone as far as to look inside of the amp ..

edit it was not clipping in the least bit and if anyhting the gains were to low so your saying i should have turned the gains up since i have a higher pre out voltage ??

thats makes the least bit of since ..

jesus christ read my post and quit acting like an idiot...unless you happen to have the exact same preout voltage (the signal that comes from your headunit to your amp), your gains should be set differently than his, which means you could've had your gains too high.

read the edit before you call me an idiot ok so im going to go crank the gains since my pre out voltage is 2v higher than his was..... im sure that will help ...

im not retarded or new to car audio i am quite knowledgeable and know what im doing it just baffles me becasue this is the first time i had an amp go into protect ..

if you checked everything, then open up you amp and check your output fets. see if any are burnt or shorted
this will be my next step tomorrow if its still in protect .. i also have the knowledge to replace fets and repair amps .. im not a newbie to car audio and know what i doing this is just the first time its happend to me personally and was curious to what have caused this in this situation

too bad I posted before you edited...

and you didn't mention anything about preout voltage, and you kept claiming that you were pushing the same power since HE set it with a dmm and you left all the settings the same so nothing could have been your fault

If your preout voltage is higher than his, then he had his gains set higher than yours should be. If you didn't lower them, you may well have been clipping whether you payed enough attention to realize or not

Pre out voltage and gain settings are inversely proportional, lower one, and you have to raise the other to get the same output and vice versa.

well i dont know his pre out voltage but he has a Pioneer 6900-ub so whatever that may be i have kenwood x891 the voltage is 5v .. it wasnt clipping though .. i can tell you that much ..

just looked it up his is a 4v mines a 5v so would it make that much of a difference even thought my sub level was 8 out of 15

people clip all the time without realizing it, so don't be so quick to rule that out unless you checked with an oscope, which you didn't.

Why are you making all these claims before you even have evidence like saying your preout voltage is 2v higher and then now you're saying you don't know what his is...

bottomline...open up the amp, check for burns/popped parts, all you can do

and set your gains with a dmm next time properly

no more "help"???????? if it doesn't work tomorrow i guess ill trash it because there is not any components i can replace since none are blown/burnt so i will fight Gustav tomorrow re installing the amp if it doesn't work it will be entering the nearest trash can ...

I'll pay shipping + 5 bucks for you to send it to me if ur gonna trash it

I sent you a full working amp, I have never had a problem with this amp. You have sent me numerous emails to me saying how much you like the system... Ive never had a problem with the amp. I would email cadence and see what they say, but like someone else suggested, Unplug everything for 30 minutes and try plugging something up. You probably have a loose connection somewhere. The amp was practically brand new, I had less then a hour on it, and I bought it brand new.
