My friend has 2x sony xplods 12" subs in a prefab band pass box + sony all around, sony deck, sony speakers, sony amps. His sound louder then my car but its just a bunch of noise. Its hard to listen to it after about 15 minutes or so.

On Topic: For 1 Type R wired to 2 ohms a good amp might be the alpine MRD-M501 http://www.crutchfield.com/S-7w0M57YGqBi/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=130&I=500MRDM501&search=alpine Its slightly over the RMS of the Type R but you can always "gain down".Thats at Crutchfield.com. You can probably find it cheaper at Ebay or some online dealer.

I would suggest getting 2 dual 4ohm VC subs and a 1ohm stable amp.

ohm = unit of resistance in an electronic circuit

VC = voice coil; the vc reacts to the signal sent to the motor (magnet) by pusing/pulling, depending on the signal.

DVC = dual voice coil; a speaker with dual voice coils; come in varying impedance configurations. can be wired in parallel ( + to + and - to -) to halve the impedance of the speaker (a DVC 8 ohm will be 4 ohm when in parallel); can also be wired in series (+ to - and + to -) which multiplies the impedance by 2 (8 ohm dvc in series is 16 ohms....(BAAAAD) but a dual 2 ohm will be 4 ohm...decent))

1 ohm stable = amp that can make power while pushing a 1 ohm load (2 ohm sub in parallel). many amps cannot handle this thus you would need a 1 ohm STABLE amp. however, not all make peak at 1 ohm (mtx 1501d puts out 1500 at 2 ohms).
