amp for Dual 6ohm sub

I have a JL W6.v1 sub - Dual 6 ohm 300w rms. I have never seen a 3 ohm stable amplifier. I was curious if it be okay to run an amp that is 2,4 ohm stable??

If so, are there any risks? Are there things I can do to decrease the risk of running a 3 ohm load to a 2,4 ohm stable amp (i.e. keeping the gains low, etc.)?

Just get a 2 ohm stable amp, it will be be able to handle 3 ohms since it's already able to handle 2 ohms. You would only have an issue if your amp only went down to 2 ohms and you're trying to play below what it can handle. You're fine, dont worry.

cool. thanks for the quick reply!

so should i look for an amp that is maybe 250rms@ 4ohms and 500rms @ 2ohm to get roughly a 300rms @ 3ohm??

i was thinking of this amp; Alpine MRP-M450

*250 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)

I think that should work well, right?

you could put at least 500w to the JL as long as you are careful with the gains. Those original w6's were some real good subs. I would look for something that does around 750w at 2 ohms.

Or you could get a matching JL amp for your W6. JL amps have a regulated power supply and run from 1.5 ohm and up. I know there pricey, but a 500/1 to that sub and youll be happy. I paid $225 for a used one on e-bay and it pushes my 2 W10 nicely.

you think i could? i mean that would be nearly twice the recommended power, however if you think i can as long as i am careful with the gains then sweet!

i was actually looking into that because of how they were rated from 1-4 ohm, but i dont really want to throw down $200+ on a used 500 watt amp (even though i know they are really nice).

i really was looking to spend $150 tops. how about this amp...

KENWOOD KAC-8103D

Rated Power Output:

* 300W x 1 @ 4ohm

* 500W x 1 @ 2 ohm

that would put me at ~ 400x1 @ 3ohm for only $120+sh

The 250/1 is plenty of amp for one of those subs. Mechanical limits are what you have to worry about, not thermal.
i would love to have this amp, but i just cant justify the cost.

any input on the...
