amp and sub combination

i wasn't sure how to word this question in the search bar... i 600w rms amp, i would like to know if i hook it up to a sub that takes 250w rms, can i keep the gain low to not blow the sub or will it just blow it?

amp is mtx rt2600. sub is dd LE-M12, the sub and enclosure package.
