Need help with low budget system for 2008 350z.

Hey guys..

I just purchased a used 2008 350z, and love it. It came with a Pioneer doubledin Touchscreen headunit (CD/DVD/MP3/USB etc..) I believe it's 4 Volt pre-outs.

The link is:

So that's in the car.. so the headunit is covered.

First let me get across as best I can my "wants/needs" .. what I expect from this "System".

I've have 2, JL 12's back in highschool and that was great fun then,.. but now I'm into my early 30's and frankly I still love car everything, including music/audio -- But I really don't need or want that kind of Bass that rattles the hatchback.. That you can hear 2 miles down the road and so on.

I'm after more of a good clean quality sound with some tight bass,..

Example: Something like the Monsoon system that's in a Pontiac Solstice with it's "premium factory audio system.. " -- I had this car previously, with the stock upgrade that had speakers in the doors and an 8" sub mounted behind the passenger seat from the factory -- Sounded great and is all I need/want sound wise and bass wise.

Of course,.. what I'll buy will very likely beat that system in terms of bass output, and volume etc.. but you get the idea,, (I'm not entering any competitions, and my budget is LOW).

My budget is around $350 -- If I need to push to $400 or so I can do so.. but I can't really go much further.

Now again I have the headunit above.. so I don't need to purchase a headunit.

I also happen to have a set of MB-Quart QM-160-KX Coaxial speakers that are 6.5".. And they are old.. From the late 90's. They are rated 70watt RMS for each speaker:

I had them in a 300ZX years ago, and took them out when I sold it and have stored them carefully since,.. thinking one day I may use them.

Here they are (the wooden frames around them were made so they'd fit properly in the doors of the 1991 300ZX they were in).

Now, those speakers were the ONLY speakers besides the two 12 inch JL W1 subs I had in the 1991 300ZX in the late 90's.. and it sounded absolutely phenomenal!

The 2008 350z is very similar in size and acoustics as it's just a much newer and better version of the 300ZX.

I'm hesitant about these MB-Quart speakers only because I am not sure they will actually fit in the 2008 350z (the last year they made the 350z). Doors.

The mounting depth in the 350z doors is shallow, I think max depth is something like no more than 2.5" without the window hitting the speaker when going down.

I can't find the specs for these old MB Quart speakers anywhere, I measured them from the very edge of the speaker to bottom of magnet and it's like 2 and 3/4" at least.

Maybe you guys know if they will fit?

If they will, then these speakers are still great aren't they, even if old? They came out of the car working 100%, not busted, etc.. been stored since.

Given my $350-$400 budget I'm basically looking for:

1) Either and 8" or a 10" sub to go into the factory glove box location (behind the seat) .. I don't want to take up trunk space/hatchback space. (I have always been pleased with JL, no matter the series.)

2) If these MB-Quarts I have just are too deep to fit,.. then I'll need recommendation(s) for speakers for the front. The front of the 350z has a 6.5" mid down low.. and a tweeter up high by the window/mirror area. So if I need speakers then drop in component speakers would be best?

3) Amplifier -- I see JL's W0's and I think W1 series are rated at 300watt RMS to 600 watt RMS.. In my old system, I had 2, JL 12" subs.. and ran 100 Watt RMS power to each of them with Kenwood amps and it sounded ridiculous.

I guess I'm saying, a JL sub is preferable.. just need to keep it in my budget, and need an Amp that will power the front speakers and the single sub.

4) Installation. -- I can work on engines and such.. but I'm terrible with car interiors,.. I'd pay to get stuff installed. What is a shop going to charge me for installing 2 fronts and a sub (with their wiring kits) to my Pioneer headunit already installed? Is it like $100 .. or something higher ?

5) Would I bet best ordering this stuff online,.. and bringing it to a sound shop in town for install.. OR, pay the premium for the stuff at a local sound shop and they usually install free if you buy from them? Just whatever meets my budget the best.

Lastly,.. Given it's a 2008 350z,.. Just front speakers and a single sub will be all I need right? Right now it has some very poor stock speakers.. either 4 speakers or 6.. I think two up front, and two behind the seats.

I realize the budget is low,.. but I do have some already.. at minimum a headunit already,.. surely something can be done for $350-$400 installed for basically 3 speakers and an amp. (Or maybe if the MB Quarts I have will fit,.. just a sub, and an Amp bought, with installation of the MB Quarts, Sub, Amp to the existing Pioneer headunit.

You guys seem like the experts in this arena,.. I would be VERY appreciative if you could help me figure this out.

Thanks so much!
