American Bass HD or RE XXX

If a 12” pair of both sets of subs was available for free, which set would you guys pick and why? Have an equally good opportunity on set of either, but don’t know much about either other than the re is quite a bit more expensive. Is that with reason?Thank you
peeps say the new re's not as good as they used to be., hd seem to be well liked but what amp would u power them with?

Depend on price. American bass nope. Off the shelf crap

What model XXX are they and how much $$$$

I would take the XXX all day over the HD if I had to choose but if I was buying something I wouldn’t buy either

I would be trading my xfls for one xxxv2d2 and I’d order one more, or I’d give my xfls to my girlfriend and pickup a pair of HD’s. Long term I want sundown Z’s or ssa zcon but I have a little while to wait.

Those over the Z? At almost 5k Watts? I hear X are really only low end monsters without much top or musicality. I want it to still sound decent and be able to reproduce higher frequencies for rock etc. the xxx or hd would just be experimental honestly.

I love my 3x. Wouldn’t change it for the world. Needs a ton of airspace though. And they have changed the coil design at least 3 times since the current basket/magnet design. The first v2 split coil design was terrible, from what you all say. I have the overhung copper coil and apparently the most resent coils are aluminum and I have no idea how many different ones in between.

That is why I went with the hstmkll instead the 12 only needs .6, mine has .55, and does very well on the ia20.1.

So how would this one compare to other xxx?

I own the original X series subs. Yes your right, they are made for very low bass. However, they can still play a little upper freq. Enclosure plays a big role for such a thing.

How are you get some subs for free? If it were me, I'd get the RE XXX. Their newer subs aren't bad from people that had or owned them, in right enclosure and should slam. Get with @shredder2 for a good design. No prefab.
