Alternator

depends on what you are running if your runing subs just run capsitors save ya sometime and money some people dont think they work but iv run some test your are saveing about 6 to 10 volts on each capsitors if you hook them just dont hook 2 in the same line if you have 2 amps run one to each of same brand name cap just ground and charge as said if not will go boom and not be good iv seen them take out alot in my electronic class that are alot smaller than one but you do cut down on energy loss and lights dimming and subs hit harder cause there is more power to the amp or amps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i want a bigger alternator for my 2001 Kia Rio, i have looked at the 2 sites i usually see posted and they dont appear to have one for my car is there any other place to look?
what power are you running?

what batteries are you running?

what is your current alternator amperage?

there is a good chance that if you are under 1800Wrms you won't need a new alt, but as to your question i have no idea where to fine one.

^^^ General rule of thumb, ignore people who's advice you can't understand due to poor grammar... but for your problem... What amps are you running, what are thier power ratings and we can help. If your running 100-500W RMS you will probably just get away with a "Big 3" upgrade and maybe a second full cycle battery. If you are in the say 500-700 range look into a reman the jumps the power up another 30-40 amps... (so if the rio has a 65amp alt look for 95-105 amp alt from a local auto parts store).. if your running more than 1000W RMS I'd go pick up a H.O. alt and go for 200+ amps... ohh and of course always do the "Big 3" FIRST! I can't think of any custom alt shops right now but I'm sure some forum member will chime in soon..

EDIT: ok two posts since I started typing... igore my non-applicable info please //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i don't really now man, 90 amps is pretty low even when your installing something small. I think the Rio has an alternator just enough for all it's equipment to run on, nothing more. My opinion would be to get a HO alt from excessive amperage.

the plus side to my car is when i bought it it was to do a big system so i got it with power nothing,no air con.,and no power stearing. i figured that would help save more juice for my audio system.

90 amps will do the trick on 600W RMS... I've done it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif... it depends on your cars electrical load. If you stock alt is only 65 amps (most older cars and I image many new cars are the same) then bumping to 90 amps gives you an extra 25 amps to play with... 25 amps + whatever your not using on the original 65 amp alt will cover a smaller system. I'd do the Big 3 before anything else... then if there is still dimming or your car isn't starting like it used to through in a 90-110 amp alt (if you have 65 amps or less to begin with) from a local store. Then when going over 1000W RMS it's time for the HO alt... but I'm a cheap *** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif...

looks like stock rio alts are 80 amps.... if you have power nothing then I'd do the "Big 3" first... it won't hurt you since you'll want it even if you do get a new alt.... here's a link to the "Big 3" upgrade info

BTW: your main draws on your electrical load, other than your stereo will be the ignition system, the headlights and cab lights, blower (A/C or heat), and umm well the other power accessories.. power steering runs off a pulley not electricity (except some exotics and hybrids)...

better than my 65 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif... **** 87 accord.. and I had just put a 90 amp in my last car.... anywho try the Big 3 first!!!! I can't imagine the Rio uses much of that 80 amps... I had a 79 lincoln with a V8 (bigger ignition strain), power EVERYTHING etc etc and 90 amps was just fine at 650W RMS... even with the brights on...

hehe... I just looked up the mtx amp... are ya running it at 2 ohms? if so maybe it is time for a new alt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif...

1ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i got 2 15' RF punch HX2's

well seeing how it runs 1500w (RMS or Max? researching on ebay //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif) at 2 ohms it's time for the new alt... though if your worrying about spending 250-300 for an alt try the Big 3 first anyways //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
