alternator help please?

Adding a second or third alt is not hard or expensive. I have four alts under the hood of my van. The chevy 140 amp one wire alt makes it easy and you can get them from a junk yard for about $25 bucks each. They produce plenty of power at idle vs some of the high output alts that don’t produce much at idle. Another advantage is that heat build up is spread out with mutable alts. Heat cuts down on the output of any alt and it can be a considerable amount. So one high output alt hot at idle may not even come close to putting out as much as two stock 140 amp one wire units.
I dont think i have room to run a couple lower amperage alts.but ill definately keep that idea in mind

You wouldn't happen to have done an EGR delete on your 4.3 have you? My Sonoma is a 2002 and it didn't come with an EGR from the factory, the intake doesn't even have a spot for one. The second alt conversion I did worked perfect with the alt sitting where the EGR would have been on an older 4.3. Just a thought..... plus the EGR valves did nothing but cause problems anyways. And im in Louisiana so there was no possibility of getting rid of the A/C either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I have not done an egr delete.i was going to make the bracket so the extra alt sits next to the stock

I wouldn't do it junkyard alts ! Really ! Do it right the first time. The hairpin alts last longer and give more power at idle your stock s10 alt is a 110 at most 55 amps at idle. So 4 will give you 220 at idle. A 320 amp hairpin will do the same at idle and dissipates heat better than conventional alts and just because it works on his can doesn't mean it will work on your s10. Most I've ever seen on a s10 that's a daily driver and work is 3 alts

I have a square body 94 and I had a local guy repack a Cadillac alt for a $105. The caddy alts are a little bigger and still bolt up. When it was all said and done I got an output of 210 amps before it dropped below 13.8v. I got a junk alt from the junkyard for $10 ( that's what junkyard gets for a core) and he did the alt for 60. Factoring in $45 for the 2 hours it took and gas. That's considerably less and easier than modifying brackets, finding belts, etc.
