Alpine Type X

okay i was planning to get a 10" ALPINE Type-X....What have you guys heard about those??? compared to the W7 and 9500???better, just as good, worse...like is it worth it, cuz im getting it cuz of what i heard and becuase no one has it here where i live, everyone has W7's and 9500's. Can you guys give me input on the Type-X's, both the pro's and con's from experience or rumors, w/e...

First hand i just got an alpine x installed yesterday..12' w/ 1200.1 jbl amp....thing SLAMS..One of they loudest 12's i have ever heard..deff a good buy

They're actually one of the better sounding drivers I've heard in a while. I wouldn't necessarily pay what the price tag for one, but I'd consider it if the price were less.

If I were to compare it to something sound wise, I'd most likely lean toward Alumapro.

Just to my ears, though ... shouldn't mean much to you. I suggest listening with your own ears and not with your eyes before purchasing.

How would the type X compare to a W6 both in SQ and SPL? These things are compared to W7s... yet are cheaper than W6s... so they can't be too bad at all...

You can't compare things by being good by their price-tag. A lot of people will agree with me when I say JL is over-priced. I mean, they're good subwoofers, but you could get equivalent quality for less money. I'm waiting to hear these type x subwoofers myself. My local stores haven't gotten them in. You have to remember what type of sub you're going for. Looks like you want SQL. Something you might want to look into is the Adire Audio Brahma or the RE XXX. From what I've read the RE likes more power, but the brahma is more sq oriented, or something. I don't know...it's really late. Anyways, I would just wait it out if you can...or if you are on a budget or it's a timing issue...save up and wait

i think the type x sounds better than the 9500 it has a unique sound, and slams hard ***! get a nice amp though, dont get the w7 you can get 2 type X for one w7

I heard a type x in a local car audio shop. It was a 10" in an extremely small sealed box. The guy turned it on with rock music not too loud and it blended in very nicely. From hearing the W7 and this Type X Id say the sound quality is preference from there. About the SPL, I couldnt tell you, the bastard wouldnt turn it up. And then to the price tag, I say Type X wins...by a good amount.

Do they make a 15" Type X? I don't think I've seen one.

nope no 15 just a 12' i went into a local shop here in chicago and i was lookin for a circuit breaker cuz i was tired of replacing fuses, guy was curious on what my setup was, showed him the set up and he said that the type-x's would be better than my subs now, i just laughed at him........... i'm sure the type-x's are nice but i prefer sticking to my idmax's don't really wanna dish out that much cash when i have similar or better performance

alright thanks...dunnoe much bout the spl and all that stuff, im a newbie to all this, i knoe the watts, the brands, i knoe of some subs, and which are good, jus the basics. Which brings me to a point, what amp should i use to power it, say like a MTX 801d??? or what amp??

Stick around for a while and curise the amp section of the forum. You'll likely find information on many amps that put out the power you need, and get a wide variety of choices....the worst thing you can do in this sport is rush into something without thinking about it.

Make sure while you're picking an amp though, that you match up impedences and get the right voice coil configuration on the sub to match your amp, or visa versa.

i beileve the type x is dual 4's so you want an amp that is 2ohm stable, if your on a budget i would look at hifonics amps, i beileve the 801s would do it fine, but i don't know the effiency of the type x, i would say an amp pushing 800-1000 watts will do it fine, but from what i hear the type x performs well in a sealed box
