Type R's have alot of sound quaility and hard hittin bass i have installed 4 type r's in a regal and then in a cutlass supreme and put 2 mtx 81000d amps took it to get metered and hit 157.2 so that shit knocks

hehe. And not im not an alpine audio fan. If I was Id wait a little longer for the Type X to come out.

get 2 12" type r's and give them about 450 watts rms and they will pound in a ported box and keep sound quality

what about some kicker 12"compvr those are under 100$ on some site.... and the compvr have really good bass and spl

Well the Type R's are a very capable sub. It can be used for SQ, SQL or even SPL if in the right install. They are no where in the same league of the "supersubs" but is a very good sub none the less. It holds it's own agents w6v2's and other subs like that. There are others better (XXX, W7, etc.) but for $100 each you can't go wrong. Plus Alpine has the new Type X comming out... I wonder how that will stack up to the rest of the big boys.
