Alpine Type-R

I'm thinking about getting Type-R subs but on a budget so trying to think of the best way to do it.

Ultimately, I would like 2 of the 12's, but can really just afford one at the moment.

So would I be better off getting an amp with rms of 1200w at 1ohm and 900w at 2ohm and run the one 12 (4 ohm dual) at the 2 ohm and be careful to not blow it and later add the second 12 or is that just asking for trouble?

My second thought would be to get an amp with an RMS at 600w at 2 ohm and when I get the second 12 to just add a second equal amp and run them separate. Is this even possible?

What do you guys think the best bet would be?

Thanks in advanced

speakers are about 140 and getting the cheaper, lower rated amp would save a bit, but if buying the larger amp would save me down the road then it's worth it, just the extra 140 and needing the larger amp is tough. Trying to stay under 400, including a 100 custom box

Get the bigger amp that is stable down to 1 ohms, you will kick yourself in the pants later if you don't, I know I did. And have you given any thought to maybe an AQ sdc2.512, it would be 14$ over your budget but IMO well worth it lol.

I had a type R, and recently upgraded to an AQ sub, and the type r was fine and dandy but the the AQ is much better sounding sub and hits a lot harder then the type R did. But don't think the Type R will be poo I wanged that thing pretty hard, and liked it (just the AQ was better for about the same price).

And you can save about 80 bucks if you build the box yourself...

Why would you think it's ok to give a Type R 900w but a pair gets only 1200w? They're rated at 500w each, 600 would be fine, but 900 is pushing it. Most amps that will output 1200w at 1 ohm will output 600w at 2 ohm. So if you get 4 ohm subs you can run the amp at 2 ohm until you get the other sub then bring it down to 1 ohm. Make sure you beef up your electrical too, 1200w is nothing to scoff at.
