Alpine Type R

I have been looking around and scoping out the type of system I want and decided to stick with Alpine products. I am about to purchase a Type R 12" 4ohm which is 500wRMS and I'm having trouble deciding on the AMP.

The ALPINE MRP-M450 is 220wRMS-4 ohm and the MRP-M650 is 400wRMS for 4ohm. I want 4 ohm b/c I have had trouble with the 2 ohms in the past. I would like mono amps because I only want 1 sub.

I realize the max is 500wRMS but I am wondering how much diffrence there will be if I only feed it 220w compared to 400w. Is there going to be an incredible diffrence? I would like to know a little more before I make my purchase.

Just incase your wondering I plan to put the sub in a single vented encosure in a extended cab truck. The deck is Alpine CDA 9852.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the M650 Alpine amp. I'm kinda ballin on a budget type of deal. But at the same time I don't want to buy total crap. I like sound quality better than that noisy rattling the trunk preeschool sh!t. I like my low's-low and not choppy.

you definitely want to go with 2 ohms (if not 1 ohm), otherwire you are pretty much just throwing away money on your amp.

also, type r's can handle well over 500W for daily use. i'd say 500W is about the minimum recommended. with 200W i think you'll be pretty dissapointed.

if you're going with the m650, i'd get the dual 4 version of the type r and give it a 2 ohm load to get 600W total.

I guess it's not a issue if you go over your max RMS for your subs?
it depends on how the company rates their products, how clean your power is, what kind of enclosure (if any) your sub is in, how long you play them at that power, etc.

but USUALLY you can go over the RMS as long as its clean power yeah..

and the type Rs are underrated in my opinion.. they should come with a rating of more like 750 rms, and if youre careful, you can give them over 1000rms daily.

Sounds like I should re-think everything.....I'm not trying to do any competition, I'm not trying to blow myself out my ride or bump to crazy types of volume levels. I'm just trying to get some sounds back in my ride. I just don't want to settle for junk.

I had a nice small alpine s-10 bandpass and a MTX bluethunder 75x2 amp that sounded ok. These got jacked from me out of a security patrolled parking lot with cameras that have the jackers on tape. This was about a year ago, so I'm gave up on ever seeing that ever again.

Maybe I should get something other than thr R series?.
