ok, i just installed my 12" Rlp..... i was expecting semi-decent SQ, but nothing, kick drum sounds like mush.. before you all bash me, here's what ive got running..

-2.3 cubes NET (after sub displacement) tuned to 30 htz... moe's plans.

-powered by a hifonics bx1605 @ 2ohm, gain set at 850 RMS.

-it's lowpassed at 63htz with a -6db slope

am i doing something wrong? i thought that rlp's have decent SQ?

i was also expecting an increase in SQ with the box being tuned lower ( i usually tune my boxes to 33hz.. personal preferance)

any suggestions?

Try adding some bracing, and adjusting the SSF. My Mag was doing the same thing, but it turns out 3.1 cubes sealed is an alignment of about 0.61. The box, one of these, I found out later also works to drop the Q. Without a sub sonic filter at work, it is a sub sonic woofer at play. The high end suffered terribly.

Bracing the enclosure, upping the SSF to about 32hz, and raising the crossover frequency to ~85hz and going up to 4th order saved my sanity and restored SQ to my woofer. Might work for you. I guess what I'm trying to say is just work with any Xover features you got and see what you can get out of it.

thanks.. ill give it a try, also, i think i might switch out the woof tommorow, and see if it's the box, it's very peak-ey. polyfil maybe?

If you got the materials and free time, try in a simple sealed enclosure based on MFG's recommended specs. They can be used as a listening reference since sealed is pretty universal as the SQ box. I plan on taking my own advice tomorrow.

Box is too big IMO...Look at the graphs of the 2 cube box...your will have an even lower dropped slope with a very slight peak ~35hz. Try a 1.5 with your same tuning.

Solid red=1.5 cu ft net

Tuned to 34 Hz

20 sq. in. of Vent Area

Dashed red=1.5 cu ft net

Tuned to 28 Hz

20 sq. in. of Vent Area

dashed green=2 cu ft net (EBS)

Tuned to 20 Hz

25 sq. in. of Vent Area

looks to be from Soundsplinters website, if I recall correctly...

What are the differences between the dashed red and dashed green? They are both 1.5'^3 @ 28hz w/ 20"^2 of port area.

try the sealed box idea....

adn double check your SSF.....

i run my 12" rl-p in 2.5ft^3 at 28hz with 32in^2 of port daily. it sounds flat out awesome....and your box isn't much smaller/higher tuned. in all honesty, yours shoudln't sound much different then mine.

i run mine off an orion 2500d @ 4 ohm (~1200wrms), ssf @ 28hz and low pass about 85 (rest of system is factory bose/gm)

if you get the same response from a sealed box, you might have a faulty sub.

im pretty sure it's not a faulty sub, i bought it off of BonesNinja, and he said it was flawless.

im gonna see what my SSF is set at tommorow, i think that may be the issue
