Alpine Type - R "Rattle Fart"

hmmm...maybe? but would it be THAT loud inside the box? I guess maybe if it were long enough tinsel leads to slap the cone...but he said it happens at any gain setting, assuming the speakers don't motor a lot at low gains, that would make his problem go away.
gotta remember that its hitting the cone, which isnt inside the box

but like you said, it does it at lower volumes too

strange

It looks like the spider comes up and touches the back bottom portion of the cone. A good way to describe the sound is if you touched a popcicle stick to the sub and it makes that "Clattering fart".

it's air leakage maybe, i've had mine screwed in with 5/8 of the screws for quite some time, and it has been doing it alot lately.
but the OG post said.... "I removed the subs and played them in open air and they still make the rattling."

maybe. maybe it wasnt aligned right to begin with.

you have 2 subs? do they both do this

It's not funny, it's annoying for me, I can't imagine how it would be if it were my sub...

So this talk of "breaking in" a new sub, is it true?

Anyone know if this can be an effect of not doing it?

I feel like I read a similar thread and someone said it's cause they didn't break their sub in....

i doubt that. is there a huge warning in the owners manual about breakin them in. dont think so, but i could be wrong

Yeah, like I said, I feel like I have heard that, but Never have I seen anything about that in a owners manual.

His wiring looks good. Assuming the picture is accurate.

How high are your gains set on a normal basis? Do you use Bass Boost? If you do, where do you set it at?

Edit: I know there are a lot of Type R gurus around here, one of them needs to chime in.

My gain is set in the lower half, my bass boost is 0 and my Sub level is -1. I have tried all of these settings and I still get rattles.

That series of Alpine amp that you have isn't digital is it?

the thing with gains is, well mostly BB and stuff. is you add distortion into the system, if at some point in time you cranked those knobs up, there is a chance you blew the subs. Cause distortion too much distortion will blow speakers....

at least you got yourself a alpine guy in here. ashtrey, help him out!
