alpine Type r help

ok so all i need is a ported enclosure built.....ported is going to get me better SQ than sealed could to right? should i try to find somebody that could build me a ported box or would it be safe to just buy a premade one from the local audio store near me or off line?

oh and also is the ported box going to get me the best SQ or just SPL?
Technically a sealed box is better SQ over the whole frequency range, but IMO a properly built ported box can have almost the same SQ as a sealed box, and the R's Turn the lows into garbage sealed in anything less than 2 cubes... but that was on 125 watts i don't know how they'd perform with more power sealed.

Ported is way better than a sealed box anyday IMO.

in that case how much volume do you think i should have inside my ported box that ive decided to be either tuned to 32 or 33 hz for best spl and sq for one 12" type r?

i have to disagree, my subs are so clean it is not even funny with my sealed box. I used to run ported tuned to 32 hertz and the sealed box blows it away.

so sealed it is? idk i want it to be loud but have the best SQ as i can get sort of but either way ill have like 1100 watts from the BXi1608D at 2 ohms jsut deciding between the sealed or ported is the hard part cuz i dont relaly want to have that muddied bass effect that the 12" CVRs ive heard have when they are loud... i want to have tight bass like it sound great but still hit hard and loud..... sealed or ported for that?

oh and no one has said ne thing bout if this one 12 could show up 2 cvr 12s or even have a chance getting at 4 cvr 12s int eh back of a friends cobalt??? the 4 im skeptical of but i think itd b able to beat the 2...

Get another type r off of ebay and run the 1608d at full tilt. You'll crap your pants when you see how much you could have saved buying from ebay and so won't your friends when you start hitting the lows.

Premade is not a safe option at all, unless they use 3/4 MDF, and have one built as big as you want, and they show you the drawings so that you can determine that it's ported to the frequency they say it is, and that there is enough port area to not have any port noise... So far I haven't found any Car audio shop that has satisfactory pre-made boxes. If you have decent woodworking skills or know anyone with decent woodworking skills you could easily make one yourself. There are plenty of designs to be found here or on the web and plenty of sites that will draw up a design for you if you give them the parameters.

TBH I had little to no woodworking skill when i made my box, but i had a friend whose dad had his own woodworking shop help me out and it was all really straight forward. But if that's not an option there are plenty of people on this forum who can make some sweet *** boxes. Look in the enclosure construction section and check some of the build logs and see if any of them offer custom boxes, and if they do they'd be great people to hit up

How big is your current box? I don't have too much experience with sealed R's, I just posted what my only experience was and how they sounded like garbage. I can always admit that I'm wrong if I am, and your subs sounded fine in your video. BTW I love that song, although i mainly listen to it screwed and chopped.

It sounds to me like a ported box is what he's after anyways because he wants to put away some guy with 4 CVR's with one type R. he's gonna need as much surface area as possible, and since a ported box uses the rear wave as well as the front it would be louder. Besides my ported box gets great sound quality the kick drums from coheed and cambria sound absolutely great in my car and my subs can get me littlbe bit of door jiggle at 25Hz too. But

People get way to serious with the whole ported theory, now yes, it does get louder, but the human ear can't really recognize a 3 db increase much. So is it worth it to port if you are looking for sound quality? I would say no, i would however recommend a large box, maybe 2.5, maybe even 3 cubic feet.

my problem is that i have a 2000 nissan altima gxe so i dont have a very large trunk space to work with if you know what i mean so idk what options best? ported or sealed? and as for getting a second type r idk if i can afford that right now but its definately int he plans for over the summer when i have a chance to work more instead of college classes all week ya know... but i was impressed with my one running off a 900watt discontinued kenwood amp that is pretty old... i woke up my neighbors daughter that lives 2 houses down and pissed off people on the road behind mine... so i can only imagne waht 1100 wats rms at 2ohms would do on this baby... i really cant wait just want it to be amazing tho either way haha

it depends on how much sound quality you want and how serious you are about it. If you love rock music and stuff like that then you should probably go sealed. But that is all i am going to say.

Alpine, were my subs pretty loud in your opinion? The box is only 3 total cubes, i don't know how loud yours are ported.

well if i do go ported is it going to sound muddy or will it still sound pretty good for SQ.... i dont want to sound like ive got CVRs in my trunk... to me they sound muddy they may b loud but idk... and how big of a ported enclosure are we talkin? oh and waht i tested it in was a 1 cubic foot 12 sub box my brothers got in the trunk of his crown vic.... idk if thatlll make a huge difference if i go from 1cubic foot to 2.5 or 3 sealed? or how ever big the ported owuld need to be?

also i mean i dont necessarily have to beat the 4 cvrs my friends got i was jsut wondering if you thought it would b possible to do? and how easily i could show up a pair of 12" cvrs?
