Ok so i have a 2000 nissan altima gxe and im planning on putting one 12" type r in the trunk.... im fairly new to sound systems and all but ive been doing alot of reading and research which is how i picked the type r.... i tested it in my brothers system with a 900watt kenwood amp i forgot which one it was but its discontinued its fairly old but i was impressed off just that it blew his 2 12"s out of the water ez under powered tooo.... but i was wondering what the best setup for my one 12" type r would be? what amp would you suggest? i had looked at a 1600 watt hifonics BXi1608D but id like other suggestions to... ive probly got about 400-500 dollars left to finish my system tho... i am planning on using a sealed box as well that i know for sure.... any input? itd b much appreciated //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You can go with as big of an amp as you want, but you need to be careful with how much and how long the sub receives high power. Since you're a noob, running a small setup like this will be a good chance for you to learn how to control the volume knob. For daily driving, 30-35 hz is a good tuning.

Type R's don't seem to do too well sealed unless it's about 2 cubes or more. If you port TBH any freq between 28-38Hz will do well for music, it more depends on you and how low you want to tune it and how much space you have. Because the lower you tune the more volume you will need in your port relative to your enclosure size.

I don't know the specs for the BXi1608D but if it can produce 700rms at 2 ohms you could always get it and run one Dual 4 ohm R off of it at 2 ohms and then if you want to upgrade you would be able to run a second R and cut the ohm load to 1 ohm. But if you don't have the space to upgrade or don't think you will in the near future you might be better off just finding an amp that can do 600-700 watts at 2 ohms (if you have a dual 4) or 1 ohm (if you have a dual 2) and then stick to that.

well i was thinking the 1600watt max of the BXi1608D so i have the potential in the future to turn up the power if i want to show off or something but it has like 1100 watt rms at 2ohms so id of course be turning the amp down a bit but i mean do you have a specific amp ud recommend instead? like i said i may have just sounded like an incompetent idiot saying all that but im trying to have my system sound as good as i can the money im spending.... ive already replaced all the stock 6.5s and tweeters int eh doors and 6.5s in the back deck and the head unit so all i have left is the sub..... i mean with this single type r could i set it up to possibly show up my friends with 2 12" cvrs or watever i mean i knwo the type r beats a cvr 12 alone but would it be possible for it to trump 2 cvrs easily? and most hte people i know have like 2 12" cvrs or one of my friends dads just up 4 12 cvrs int he back of a cobalt....so its not like theres many people iwth real expensive subs int heir cars and they all were like why the F would u pay for a type r u could get a few cvrs ya know?

haha so the 1608 would that b a good idea or will it kill the subs lifespan pretty bad? ive got like a 4 year warranty on it from the place i bought it from but still?

ok and now for the ported box i have no clue how to make one so would you have any suggestions on websites or where i could buy a good ported box but still a cheap price for it?

Nothing wrong with going with the BXi, you'll just have to be really careful when you set your gain.

No matter what get yourself a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) and read the sticky in the amplifiers section of this forum about setting your gain properly. After reading that you should have a good enough understanding to safely set the gain on whatever amp you get so that your subwoofers stays intact.

As Far as amps I can think of a couple but none that would give you the same power at 2ohms and beat the BXi on price, I'm sure there might be a couple out there, you could look in the classifieds section of this forum, just make sure that if you buy here that the person you buy from posts pictures of their product or has a lot of references here cuz it'd **** for you to get scammed putting your first system together
