All right I have a alpine type r 12 in a shitty ported box and id like to upgrade the box that its in...id like it to have a lot or bass and a big port....I'm currently running it with a alpine mrp500 amp and I have the sub down to 2ohms...my cars a jetta so I have a pretty big trunck...I'm pretty new to this, so any help would be great....

im pretty new here to, but i can tell you right off the bat your amp is way to small for the type r's, I had 2 type r's and the mrp m 1000 and they still wanted more power. somthing to think about, IMO the mb quart dsc 2000.1 is a great amp at a great price...but ill get back to you topic....

heres a great box design for the type arggs

3.531cu ft internal

38Hz tuning

¾: MDF (particle wood)

32” wide x 14” tall x 17.5” deep

Port = 12.5” tall x 3.5” wide

Length will be an L on either side : 12.5” deep and then 3.75” behind each sub"

i even make you a quick sketch....gime a sec

dude run it in 2 ft^3 ported through the rear deck right between the 6.5's flush it in and run you amp to one side leaving room on other side for your highs amp

like this

that is a caddy i did its one 4 ohm jl w3 on a tma500.1 (called J2 now ) bish slams trust me port through rear deck if this is a DD

$0.02 added/ Dappa/

Running a single Type R on low power you should use a large box so that you gain efficiency. Around 2.5-3ft will work well and that will let you use a bigger port also. As far as tuning goes, that's personal preference and vehicle dependent also. 32-38 will work for most people....so if you don't know maybe go in the middle of that range, around 35-36hz.

Aight guys sorry for not postin back sooner, just started school and its hectic already.....good news I just aquired another 12inch type r and a alpine mrp m1000 so I have more to work with....I didn't post this b4 but I also have a single 10inch type r that I first started out with so id like to in corperate that in to.......so anyways what I was thinkin was I'm gonna mount the 10inch in the spare tire slot and power that with the mrp500 and I like the idea dappa5 had with mounting them, but quick question how do you secure the mdf to the sides of the trunk? With screws, I dunno, or I was thinkin bout makin a like a box where they face each other, I dunno, I also got some 0 gauge wire for the install so I think I have everything....will post pics soon

I also suggest forgetting about the 10. It is hardly going to be a noticeable difference in output and will only make the sound quality worse.

For an enclosure I suggest 2 cubes per sub @ 32-36Hz. Tune higher if you are looking for loudness and tune lower for better sound quality.
