almost the perfect system (well for me)

Ive had my JL 10W7 for a few months now and i LOVE the sound quality from it. I can either hit REALLY hard or just keep it low and still enjoy the bass response. Recently, however, my bass has just been cutting of in the middle of my music. For example, Im listening to late night tip and i crank it up to hear my music slap, but when i turn it up the system just cuts off. I look under my seat to check the voltage on my cap, and sometimes it reads "8.3v" or the whole thing might just cut off (the cap, the amp that is pushing my 500/1 amp, and my 4-channel amp). What can be causing this? I was reading on here about the Big Three but I can't do that because of my location, so where could i take my car to have it done. The audio shops around said they cant do it, also how much would that cause to have it done?

If someone can help me this problem and not knock me for not knowing that would be appreciated. THANKS

unhook the cap see if thats the issue.... Check the voltage at the battery and see what it is supplying. Alternators do fail after being pounded on time and time again, most auto parts stores can test alternators.

ok thanks a lot!

Ima go to the auto parts store and see if they can test my battery and alt. I have a deep cycle battery that I just got not too long ago.

also i know that my alternator isnt too big...or it cant crank too many amps. do you guys know where I can find a high performance alternator for a Lancer

The audio shops cant upgrade your big three??

I wouldnt buy a thing from any of them, they all sound completely incompetent, it is the basis for a solid install.

BUy some 1/0 guage fron knu concepts and o it yourself it should take 1-4 hours depending on how comfortable you are runnign wire.

honestly i know i can do it...and im completely comfortable with wiring. its just that i live on my college campus in the dorms and people will steal if they suspect you of having any kind of system in your car. Im thinking imma do the big three and get an HO alternator, or maybe buy an HO alternator to hold me until i get back home and can do the big three myself....what do you guys think?

anyone know of a place to buy HO alternators for lancers??

Yeah I live on campus too, it sucks, especially since I have a UV, I have to keep all my stuff covered up with a blanket in back and pray no drunk idiot decides to bust in my window, looks stupid but sounds great. Yeah if none of your connections have wiggled loose, maybe your alt is losing it, they have got to be pretty small in the lancers.

lol yea the alt is pretty small in my car...ok so I'll do the big three, but still where can i find HO alt? plus how much am I looking at if i decided to just have someone do the big 3 for me? the next i go home is in like 2 months, and that is too long not to have music in my ride....=(

thanks for sharing the pain azeroth lol

1) get rid of the cap

2) check your ground and power wires at all connections points

3) if you are using the "chassis" as a ground, please make sure you got a clean connection that you sanded down and secured well. if not just do a nice full ground run all the way up to the front battery negative terminal to save yourself any head aches of possibly moving your "chassis" ground to yet another shitty spot

bad/corroded/loosened connections are the cause of resistance. resistance is the cause of voltage drops...and on a 12v electrical system, sitting at 8.3v is quite a voltage drop. low voltage activates low voltage protection circuits. low voltage protection circuits cut out the amp to keep it from frying it self.

you need to start at the basics.

thanks for the input ignoreme...im going to try and check to see if there are any corrosions near my connections....and also that my grounds are COMPLETELY grounded. last time i checked though they were good but perhaps there was something that i missed. I'll start from the basics though.... i also checked on ebay for an alternator, but I can't find one..... =/
