And not a single one of those brands qualifies for the strict interpretation of "MADE IN USA" under the FTC's guidelines! In order to qualify as "Made In USA" not only does it have to be assembled here, but substantially ALL parts vital to the unit's construction/operation/etc. must be sourced in the USA too. If Zed was big enough to get a fine, I'm certain that he would drop the Made In USA designation since most of his circuit board is manufactured overseas and stuffed into a heat sink here in the USA.
EDIT: Audiocontrol dropped the Made In USA designation for that very reason. The products are still assembled here, but they do NOT meet the post 9/11 guidelines imposed by the FTC.

Linear Power admits that they are assembled here, but were smart enough to not slap the "Made In USA" sticker all over their products.

Even Tru says they are "built" in California, but I can't recall seeing a "Made In USA" sticker slapped on them.
pitchforks and torches can be had by visiting your local farm&fleet, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i've read all of this^ prior to posting. nothing 'car audio' is even remotely 98% "made in usa". if you want to get technical following those guidelines, this thread is moot,.. so the only option is to suggest brands as close to "made in usa" as possible.

So let us say you could get car audio that was 100% made in the USA, was slightly more reliable, and performed as well as comparable chinese junk. How much more would you be willing to spend? 10%, 30%, nothing more?

Prior to the 9/11 attacks, the standards were WAY different to qualify as "Made in USA". Even then there were some flat out lies!

This was on the outside of my Orion HCCA 250 G4:

This is what the board had on it:

Unfortunately, if it deals with electronics, you are wasting your time being Patriotic because electronics are a global commodity now, and have been for quite some time. That being said, I still have no problems purchasing from Digital Designs, Sundown, and JL Audio, regardless of where their products are made. Why? Because they offer top notch customer service and support. All three of those companies have always answered any questions I had about their products and addressed any concerns I had.

I always like the amplifiers that said MADE IN THE USA, and on the board there was a water mark or a sticker with small print, "made in Korea,China ect ect".

this was something that confuzzled me to no end when i first got accustomed to a/d/s/t/'s products, namely, my 400 extreme. for posterity, i might find myself the motivation to go pop open 10+ different o/s amps to see which companies lied back in the day, lol

QFT!
I still have yet to hear from anyone to get a 1500 series motor reconed with new parts!
Dang, I spoke to them last month when I ordered a new 1508 due to the fact that I no longer have a local Digital Designs dealer. Prior to that Scott Tang answered a lot of my questions. In fact, one of the issues I discussed with Scott Tang a few years back was reconing my 1508s as D4s and reconing my 1010. I ended up keeping my 1508s as S4 due to the fact that I found a 2 ohm stable Power 1000BD for $50 and I just gave my sister the 1010 for her car. Regardless, I always had good luck getting in touch with the folks at DD.
