Is JL Audio still near the top of traditional sub brands? Was looking to upgrade the bass in my Tahoe. Curious as to who’s the best without breaking the bank.

JL still makes high quality stuff.

Alpine and Kicker have nice offerings.

I can't speak much to Morel but I gather they make very nice subs. More in the 'sound quality' niche.

They are still at the top. It's the brand that everyone competes with. That being said, there are many other options that will give you the same performance for a lot less. A 12w3 will run you $450 where you can get an Alpin R2 for $380. I can't believe people are paying $1300 for a W7.

With JL Audio now being owned by Garmin, I would wait to see where they go from here.

I wouldn't say jl is top. They make really good subs but there are better out in that price point...

Check out Adire Audio. Dayton Audio is another one to look at. Both are available at Parts Express. The Alpine Type S is often over looked for a more entry level sub.

Nothing has changed over time regarding the most important part... enclosure

Imo asking about gear is uninformed as a decent enclosure can elevate budget subs performance substantially.

Tahoe beats huh? Lotsa options for any budget

Totally depends on goals. Chances are you can find a better product from a different company at every budget too, JL is expensive.

I can't believe people are paying $1300 for a W7.

Yeah the subs in my car are $1350 and they're 130 lb monsters

Not that they're comparable, just gives an idea of how far you should get for that kind of money for a single speaker
