Aftermark install problems

I Have a Bmw 318ti

I just replaced the factory head unit with a new one. The head unit seems to be working fine, can change levels, radio stations, cd plays e.t.c how ever no sound is coming from the speakers. I tested all the speakers by running a short wire from the new head unit direct to the speaker ( cutting out the factory bmw speaker wiring) and they all worked. But if i connect to the factory bmw speaker wire i get no sound. Can this problem be fixed without having to runn all new wireing from the head unit to the speakers

do your stock door chimes and things work? I had to buy a special wining interface to get mine to work.. it was about $50 for gm.. so I have no clue wut yours would cost.. got it at walmart btw

yes all other eletrics r working, speakers r the only problem

I would suspect that you have a factory installed amplifier which is not powering up to send your speaker signal to your speakers. Your new radio should have a blue or blue w/white stripe labeled "remote" or "power antenna",or both. You might not have the "power antenna", but you should have a "remote",this is the wire that will power the factory amp up. If you look on the wiring harness that you bought there should be a blue or blue w/white stripe wire or a wire designated for the factory amp(check color codes enclosed with harness). Hook up said wire and enjoy. All this will depend on if you bought said radio harness. If you did not buy said harness, but instead cut into factory harness then good luck. cheers electropro that sounds like it will be the problem, i did see the blue wire labeled power atena but ecause i don't have one didn't bother to hook it up. i will give it a go tonight

FYI....some HU's have a wire just for the amp so use that if yours has one, otherwise your speakers will only play when the radio is on/antennae up if you use the ANT wire.
