Advice on small system

i say go with

rainbow germs

rl-i

pioneer HU(however much u wanna spend)

for amps I would look at lots and find one u like the best. go to ebay search for a 2 channel and a mono and match them according to your budget

I'm still curious; if JL claims they don't sell/authorize their products anywhere but at the dealer where do I get them? JL claims that any of their products, if purchased online won't have a warranty or there is a possibilty that they are used/refurbished/tampered with. True?

Is this a bunch of BS or are places like onlinecarstereo a good place to buy?

thanks, dudes for the continual info.

If you really want JL and the warranty, head to a local shop and go for it. It's good equipment but comes with a steep price, IMO.

I'll parrot what's already been said numerous times: if you are open to alternative brands, our suggestions will not steer you wrong. Chances are if it's sold in a shop or on the internet no matter what the brand and model, someone here has used it and word about a product being good or not gets around quick. I'm still going to suggest you keep your options open and get a whole lot more system for the price of a JL system.

Yeah, that's the thing about JL vs. everyone else. $3800 worth of JL can't stand up to $3800 of other brands. I've got about $1500 in my stereo, and it sounds pretty dang good. If I can make a nice setup for $1500, theres no use in you spending $3800 on what is honestly a pretty modest system.

Where are you going to find a professional to install all these gears and sound proof with RAAMMat for $500 including sub box and wiring? Not to mention you are not buying from them.

Well I'm not the most experienced one around here, but with $2500 you could get a KILLER SQ setup in your truck. I'm pretty sure most people would agree on a setup similar to this one:

HU - $350

Alpine 9887 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=5756

Front Stage - $600

Focal K2P Components http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3400

Rear fill (if you insist...) - $90

CDT CL-5EX http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3060

Sub - $300

JL Audio 10W6V2 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2059

Amp - $600

Zapco REF1000.4 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2379

Sound proofing - $150

Raamat http://www.raamaudio.com

Sub box, wiring, proffesional installation- $500

Total: aprox. $2500

Plus, you would be getting warranty from woofersetc, and you could get all this equipement from the same store. And you would be some very happy SOB. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

From the bigger more credible sights I'd doubt that the subs are actually used, not really jl etc. The internet is not the big scary scam filled place that dealers want you to think it is, at least not when your looking in the right places.

The point is, if your going to buy online, JL isn't the way to go. You won't get the factory warrantee on online JL, so its' only real advantage is gone. Your simply left with more expensive products that aren't as good. There are cheaper things out there online that are better, that even come with actual warantees. Heck, if your fine with no warantee you can get amazing gear for quite cheap. Higher quality stuff breaks less anyway usually.

Here's a complete system that would give some nice SQ for a low/modest budget:

HU: DEH-P880PRS

$327 shipped w/install accessories

Front Comps: TS-C720PRS

$269 shipped

Sub: CompVT 12 2 ohm

$110 shipped

Amp: ZX700.5

$285 shipped

Amp Wiring: KnuKonceptz 4AWG, 4 CH

$60 shipped

Addt'l RCA: Klarity 5m

$8

Battery Terminal: Knu or www.darvex.com

$10-40 depending on what you want

Sub Box: 3/4" MDF from a lumber yard/home improvement store or have a shop build you one.

$25-150

Sound Deadening: RAAMmat BXT

$135 shipped

TOTAL: roughly $1250-1400

Run the 720PRS comps active from the 4 channels of the 700.5 and the HU, run the sub from the fifth channel.
