A quick Fuse question.

I have 2 Gauge Power cable run down split with a Power Post. [basically a cheap man's distro block that works off the same principle, except a lot less safe [Physically]. It's a plastic block with basically a bolt sticking out of it, you put the wires on terminals and slide it on the bolt.

Anyway, at the power post it's split to two 8AWG wire to each of my amps.

I haven't put in fuses yet [i just got some money]

And I was looking at inline fuses and didn't know which to put each.

I already have a 50 AMP circuit breaker maybe 6" from the battery. So, I just need a rear inline fuse for the 2=AWG wire and should I put one on each of the 8-AWG wires going to my amps?

Also, what Amp fuses should I run?

Someone told me 140-Amp for the 2-AWG should be fine [i'm running a 1200-Max Mono Block [split to 300x2 @ 2-ohm] + 520-Max [104x4 @ 4-Ohm] amps]

But, that power post scares me a little bit. When I get some more money I think I'm gunna get an actual distro block. I know the power-post is actually safe since I've used it dozens of times before [Except on boats, I'm a boat mechanic by trade. I work for Boat Mechanic place over the summer]

And also, if I should run fuses in the 8-AWG wires, what Amps should I put in each?

Basically for fuses you just get the biggest one for your size wire. This prevents shorts and wire overheating/burning due to too much current. So just check this out http://www.the12volt.com/wiring/recwirsz.asp. So you could do 200 for the 2awg. From what i read though is that you have a 50 amp on the 2awg and that is way too small, with that system you'll be blowing them left and right. I don't know what you mean you need a rear inline fuse for the 2 gauge, your current 50 amp fuse is an inline fuse, you don't need another on the other end of a solid wire. There really isnt much point in adding fuses to the 8's unless the amps internal fuses are more than the 8's can handle, which i doubt, but in that case instead of adding fuses you should upgrade the 8's to 4's and just have the one fuse by the battery. Hope this helps

your fuse and circuit breaker should the the same size. That size should be much larger than 50Amp. Try 150amp for both. Also, 8ga. is quite small for amps that put out over 400wrms. Depending on the power you're pulling you might want to upgrade to 4ga. wire

Well, from the 104x4 amp, it only does about 210-RMS, and the other amp does about 500 RMS... and to be honest, I don't think it can fit 4-gauge in the bigger amp, or even in the smaller one. I'll have to look, I don't remember.

But if I do upgrade, I'll put on fuses for sure.

if you upgrade the fuses would be pointless...
