trouble w/ pioneer & audi

Hey all, I am new to your forum. I did a search and could not find what I was looking for.

I just had a pioneer premier DEH-P5901B put in to a 2000 audi A4 I was going to put new speakers in but the tech told me that new speakers weren't necessary and that the new pioneer would make the stock speakers sound good. About 2 weeks after the install the pioneer would just shut off when playing. So I went back the tech he told me he might have to put a heat shield in. i asked him to check the ohms and he told me that was not necessary and wouldn't make a difference. the pioneer was still shuting down. I went back once more, the tech that did the install had been let go. so a new tech looked at what had been done, he told me that the stereo was wired to the stock amp. the old stereo and amp were 8 ohms the new pioneer is 3 ohms the tech said that the lead to the back speakers was cut and by-passed the amp and the tech must have had some problem that is why he by-passed the amp. now the whole thing sounds like crap and im told i need new speakers. would this have blown the speakers and the amp to be hooked up with different ohms for the different componets it is still under waranty what should I do thanks for the help:confused:

1. that doesnt make any sense, the old amp has no effect on the resistance of the speakers. Amps can be rated to provide power at certain resistances ie, 1ohm 2ohm 4ohm ect. (i have no idea where you got the 3ohm number from) but they themselves don't have a resistance specification... 2. a head unit will hardly improve a poor set of speakers, maybe a bit cleaner and louder, don't expect much difference from the stock unit. 3. A heat shield? really? unless you are cranking at 100% 24/7 i don't see how it is overheating and powering down, odds are something is wired poorly. 4. With a new head unit you would have to bypass the stock amp (because you would overpower it with the high level signal) unless you go through the trouble of putting the rca outs of the hu through a loc ie. just stupid... So basically nothing should be going through the stock amp cuz the pioneer would blow it out and perhaps the speakers, which ever one goes first. The ohm crap is all crap as far a I can see, maybe someone else knows what you mean by that...

no the pioneer has no rating, if the old speakers are wired at 8ohms thats what the hu will power them at resistance has nothing to do with the amp, you would blow the old speakers by using too much power, most car speakers are rated for 10-25watts max, i think some pioneer units can drive up to 65 watts thats where the problem comes in...

thanks for your help the tech keeps talking ohms and I dont know to much about the hole thing I am just trying to keep from getting ripped off thank

yeah thats the problem with a lot of store techs, they hack the unit in the easiest way they can and it probably isn't installed as well as it should be. But without actually knowing how its is currently wired and how it was before its hard to say what he messed up...
