a newbie needing an amp

I'm fixing my old car up and just decided its high time I put a goood stereo system in it. My problem: I dont know piss in a boot about what are the best brands and what would be some good deals. So, I'm hopin yall can help out a newbie here. I already found the subwoffer I want. for about $250 its a brand new Cerwin Vega Stroker competition series. Its 15in with a 4000w max and a 2000w RMS. The car is a little 1990 Nissan 300zx, so I think only one will be plenty of bass. I'm counting on my tax refund (about $1,000) to finance most of my stereo so my budget aint much to be proud of yet. So what kind of amplifier would be best fo feed such a hungry woofer (and I dont mean the ones up in the hills) without overpowering it or clipping the sound. Since I also got to look at crossovers, mids, tweets, a second battery, and a head unit, money is a big issue. Please let me know which amps can best get me big bass and watt from a little buck. wow...that's alot of power you need...i gonna suggest you look into at least a 2 farad capacitor or audio system battery along the way. anyways, i found 2 goodens for ya. the first is the kicker zx1500.1- it'll give you at least 1,500rms @2ohms. it's a $1,000 amp you can find on ebay for $370 shipped brand new (item # 350020708538). now if you can get that sub wired down to 1ohm, the hifonics bxi2006d will give you 2,000rms @ 1ohm. it'll prolly do 1,000-1,500rms @ 2ohm. that ones goin for $325 shipped- at item# 27029879846. both are truly worth the money and more...the kicker is prolly a bit more reputable so far. oh yeah..the kicker offer ends feb. 7 and the hifonics ends feb. 11. if you miss out on catching the one you want by then, just go back through the amps and find it on another sale...it'll be about the same price...btw...stay away from pyle, boss, jensen, legacy, and lanzar...and no two channel amps, you need a mono class D (no class A/B) for this....good luck

Kicker wouldn't be a bad choice of amp though... Just look around for a while.

Any of the Brutus series amps are underrated. If you want to stay in that pricerange you will probably need a bxi2607.

First off do not get a cap, you wont need it.

Upgrade your battery under the hood, put one extra in the trunk, do a "big three" upgrade(you can search the forums to figure out what this is, it helps a lot) and you should be fine on power draw with the power you're going to be running

Nice choice in subs, the Strokers arent bad woofers at all...lets seee

The 1500.1 Kicker should be plenty to power it, as he said(he was right on that) and it will honestly do more power than the 1606 Hifonics will.

Have you decided how you are going to build the box in that little *** car for a 15"? You might want to consider that as well

id do like dual 12's in that car with a kicker 1000.. you dont need this for your first time man. Just get dual aq's or maw's or re's and get a kicker 1000 on it.. buy the pkd 0 gauge wiring kit Great rca's and umm... make sure you put a nice headunit like pioneers or alpines.

Any of the Brutus series amps are underrated. If you want to stay in that pricerange you will probably need a bxi2607.

2 farad cap ftl....The kicker is a good choice of amp, also not all lanzars are bad the opti line is a good amp you can find the lanzar opti2000d on ebay for 219 shipped i think, that puts out some good power, i run the opti6000d and it puts out 6k rms at 1 ohm so, other then that search the forums for sale section theres always some good finds in there and if u find something in there and are sure of it post about or search bout it in the forum and you'll find everything you need.

That stroker is gonna need some space so i hope u arent just going to buy a 15'' sealed or pre fab ported box as well, ur gonna need someone to build u one or design one and build it yourself to actually hear what that speaker should sound like...

It is a tricky one, but ah' was thinkin o finding a way to blend the housing into the interior as oppose to just droppin a big square box in there. I been told that for the best sound I need a housing with 5cf.. This is where my college math is really gonna pay off if I can do it. I also hope to have it fairly hidden. I think its better to be modest and then surprise someone who's worth it rather than be flashy and get the wrong kind of attention. But for power; what would you reckon on getting a performance alternator instead of a second battery?
