Hello all. I'm new to this forum and could use some of your expertise.

I want to install a new system in my Toyota truck and I'm not sure what I need to get. I've been to a local shop, but I don't fully trust their opinion.

My system will have a JVC head and I have two 4" speakers up front. I want to add two more speakers for the rear. I need some more bass but I don't like the sound of subwoofers. Too bassy (if that's a word). The cab of my truck is small so a lot of power is not really necessary.

Would just two other larger speakers give me enough bass and should I get an amp? And what speakers and amp would you recommend. Price is a consideration as I don't have a huge amount to spend.

Thanks.

I would make a nice mid woofer box for the back with like 4 6.5 subs, Would get low and still sound good and not sound like a subwoofer. you would need an amp for those.

Wire them like this.

And then power them with this amp.

and put them in a 2 cube sealed box.

Well, if you don't like subwoofers then my guess is that you just havent heard one properly integrated into a system. But if you dont want one, thats understandable.

Youre probably going to have a lot of people tell you to ditch the 4" and get some solid 6 1/2in. component speakers to amp in the front. Sound coming from the rear (above 80ish hz) isnt favorable to the soundstage, but your simplest solution in my opinion is to just get some 80 dollar 6x9s for the back and youll feel like you have a lot more bass. No need to amp them at first.

If you want to skip this step (and you should), then do like i said earlier. Good components, amp for them, single sub (depending on what you can fit) in a nice sealed box, with amp of course. This will make you a lot happier.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't think that I can easily fit 6x9"s without a lot of cutting. It was suggested to me by one of the local shops to put in 6" round speakers in the rear with an 8" sub. The 6 inchers won't be hard to fit but I'm not sure where to put the sub.

I was looking at 6 inch speakers and the the selection is somewhat overwhelming. I look at a $200 set and then a $60 set and the specks are nearly the same.

What speakers are better ones? Or maybe an easier question might be what speakers should I stay away from?

Thanks again.

Gary

Check out Pheonix Gold RSD's, you can find them for as cheap as 80 dollars shipped off Ebay

My suggestion would be to save a few more dollars, buy a 4 channel amp and run a small sealed sub behind ya and the components up front

X2, you don't need to go out and buy a 10 or 12" sub either a nice 8" sub would take a very small box and be easy to blend easily with a decent set of comps. A 4 channel amp would be able to run everything

I bought a 4 channel amp to power my fronts and rears. My current fronts, which I think I can keep, are Infinity 4022i . They're only 4 inchers, but they fit in the factory mounting spot. The amp I bought is a Pioneer Gm-4300F. It's only 400 watts but I thought it'd be enough for the small space of my truck cab.

The speakers that were recommended by the shop (Car Toys) is the Infinity 62.7i. But I'm open to all suggestions.

It was mentioned before to get an 8" sub and I think that I will. I was also wondering if maybe a woofer instead of a sub would give me more mid bass?

Thanks.

Gary
